Which 390X should I get?

byalexandr

Hey guys, I am eventually selling my FX 6300, AsRock 970M Pro3, EVGA 400W PSU, and ASUS GTX 760 once I replace it with a Z97 mATX board and a 4790K/4690K. Most people said I should sell it for ~$400 and buy a 390X. The question is, which one should I get? I hear the Tri-X OC version from Sapphire is good but it doesn't have a backplate and the card is really heavy. Also, any other cards I should take into consideration? I will try to find a used GTX 980 as well, but if I can't get my hands on one I will get the 390X. Thanks!

Just to be clear, I am saving right now for a new motherboard, PSU, and CPU. I will then sell my old CPU, motherboard, PSU, and GPU and use the money to buy a new GPU to go along with the new CPU, motherboard, and PSU.

EVgA gigabyte or msi, sapphire

EVGA doens't make AMD chips. If I do get a GTX 980, it will probably be reference or a G1 since those are on Craigslist a lot. If not that than an ACX 2.0 from EVGA's B-stock.

The one labelled R9 390x.

Yeah, but Sapphire Tri-X or PowerColor's card or XFX Double Dissipation? Which one?

The zotac 980s have had good price drops, try to take a look at them.

Ehh, I have had really good experience with EVGA cards. Honestly, whatever is available for the GTX 980 I will try and go with, but if I get a 390X I'm going to get a good one, which is what this thread is for.

Can't really go wrong with sapphire, MSI or gigabyte. Pick which one goes best with your build/budget.

Gigabyte makes AMD cards? I assume you're referring to the GTX 980. Are MSI cards good? An honest answer, please? Also, is XFX like the EVGA of Nvidia? If so, I might pick up an XFX.

XFX was a top maker of Nvidia GPU's, but are now AMD only, when my R9 390 arrives it will be an XFX model, just like my past 7770.

Damn! That is one SEXY card. I will totally pick up an XFX 390X if I can't find a GTX 980. I might even pick one up just because it's so nice.

Also, is 650W enough for a 390X and a 4690K? I don't plan on Crossfire anytime soon.

Sapphire is like the EVGA of Nvidia. I would shoot for a Sapphire Tri-x or Nitro.

I was referring to them as a whole. I've owned two MSI, two Sapphire and one gigabyte card. I didn't have issues with any of them. I owned an XFX 280x for about a month, but I took it back to get a different card after that.

Well, after much consideration, I've decided I will look for an EVGA or Gigabyte GTX 980, and if I can't find one I like, I will go with an XFX 390X. I keep hearing mixed stuff about Sapphire, and I like the XFX card anyway. Thanks for the help! Anyone have a suggestion about the power supply? Will 650W be enough? Preferably Cooler Master, since I like them a lot.

the way AMD cards woks

MSI and Sapphire for best OC out of box

Gigabyte for good cooler and potentially best OC cards

best coolers are Sapphire (TRI-X / NITRO / Vapor-X) by a long shot. after that is Powercolor then Gigabyte then MSI and XFX.

best customer service is XFX by far.

never buy Asus, their coolers simply isnt good enough and your card may thermal-throttle if the case isnt very well ventilated.

Seen the Gigabyte G1? I'm picking a 390 G1 for my build. They also have made cards for the r9 200 series. My dad has a gigabyte r9 290 in his machine.
