Century link is a shit awful isp and you shouldnt get your internet from them if you dont already. Their service is inconsistent and goes off and on randomly, the speeds are about 10% of what the promise or less and they have shit connectivity. My dads computer seems to work fine, maybe because hes double connected, but since it works fine for him he wont switch. We were so close to switching when they sent a new router and he stayed. The router worked fine for the first week then turned to shit again like the first one. They promised 150 mbs, got 15 mbs at the start and now degraded to 5 mbs. I just tried to play terraria with a friend and skype after a week of being away and the quality has degraded even worse and I can do anything. The skype gets garbled and the terraria server lags like shit. The internet seems to jump in and out of connection at will. The techs says there is nothing wrong but thats bull. have to restart the router for it to work for 10 minutes then it starts failing again. This is the 3rd router we've been through. Utter bullshit. I'm not paying centurylink when i have my own place and i dont recommend it to anyone.

... Did you ever think that it's bad in your area? I used to have Century link and it was fine..

Just remember: Random people on the internet ALWAYS know more than professionals, when someone's lying, AND can predict the future.

I currently have them. They are actively throttling me whenever I start streaming videos. Usually happens after 7pm to about 1am.

I reported them to the FCC, have heard NOTHING from the FCC about it, and since then it's only gotten worse.

Yeah, fuck century link. We pay something like $80 a month, for "10"Mbps, and get about 1 according to EVERY SPEED TEST THERE IS, and yet if I type in the router access address into my  browser, it claims 11Mbps.

At least you get 90% of what you are paying for, rather than 10%

ive spent countless hours on the phone with their terrible support trying to "figure out" why the #$)@(%*U!@#  they keep sending me 120$ bills when they should be 40$.  All I get is internet since they constantly mess up the phone service.  I've also burnt thru 2 of their routers (thankfully best buy keeps replacing them since I bought it) and now I'm actively air cooling it since they always reek of hot plastic and chemicals... never thought I'd say that I miss cox (hahaha thats what she said)

Only thing i got from Century Link is their phone service, was going to go with Century for ISP but they forced you to bundle phone and internet plan which was more expensive so i got Comcast for 7/1 for (30 for the first 6 months)60 bucks a month(unlimited and no throttle)

No comcast in your area? I've had pretty good experiences with comcast/AT&T, decent customer service and speed is always reliable.

I'm assuming that you've tested the connection at your Dad's PC that you say "works fine"? Because if you're getting 120Mbps or more at your Dad's PC, then it's something internal to your network or your PC that's the issue.

"Stable"? I don't know the exact setup you have, but if you're getting what you're supposed to on one PC and the rest are iffy, then your ISP is providing what they can. Would you be able to draw up a rough diagram of your network with an annotation of a speedtest on each device?

The reason his is stable is most likely because he is connected to ethernet and wireless. My and my brother tested this. If you are connected to only one it will flicker (wireless had a higher chance than ethernet) but if your connected to both no flickers occured.

Windows (assuming it is) will not aggregate the two links and it will prioritise one over the other thus making that answer mostly defunct. I say mostly as I've known computers to do very strange things and work in very strange ways.

You've still failed to answer a rather simple question: have you run a speedtest on your Dad's PC and what is the result if you have?

In which case: yes, your ISP is a bitch, hate them and switch if you can. At least whine at them constantly and perhaps they'll do something about it.

ISPs are a nuisance and never get things right. I ordered my internet and was told I'd get 73Mbps. When I was "only" getting 56Mbps, I questioned it, they changed a couple of cables and now I get 48Mbps. I questioned it again and they told me this (paraphrased): "Your area is using aluminium cables which will greatly limit the speed you can achieve and we have corrected the estimates to reflect that." But when I ask for them to switch the cables back so that I can get 56Mbps again, they say that my speed is within range of the estimate and is fine. When I questioned the possibility of the line being upgraded to something less '70s, they just laugh and say "no"... You know the biggest issue? My ISP actually has no access to the network they use as it's all run by Openreach and Openreach is completely and entirely un-contactable (which is apparently not a word). *Sigh* Rant over.

It's an American ISP, all of them are horrific.

At least computer parts here cost like 1/2 of what they do to the rest of the world. (RIP anyone living in Quebec trying to buy a computer)
