lol I'll put my hands up and admit I'm a right girl when it comes to scary games.

took me a while just to play left 4 dead on my own. I'm fine if I'm playing online with strangers!!

but I do love zombie games, there's just a lot of ass puckering

Killing floor 2 is really good also, scared the crap out'a me a few times when playing solo.

doom 3..dont care what anyone says. scared the shit out of me big time...not touched a horror game since.

I love horror films but hate horror games as I'm in control!

Doom 3 had some fairly scary moments, especially in the first few sections of the game. As someone who usually avoids jump scares like the plague, I'll admit it took me a few years to finally buckle down and get through Doom 3. Though my impression was that it dropped some of the horror element as you went through it.

Alien: Isolation is by far the scariest game I've ever played, though I say that without having played many "real" horror games.

Outlast & Isolation for me.

Outlast is the only game I have ever played where I was actually scared.

just checked up Outlast on steam and the user reviews say:Overwhelmingly Positive

will add that game to my list of games I have to complete before my death

I don't think I got more than an hour into it! fat blokes in the dark with chain saws and things flying out of vents had me curled up in the corner calling my mummy! ha

Most were mentioned so nothing to add (except), but I'm just wondering if someone knows, Forbidden Siren and Fatal Frame, how do they work on emulators? If they work fine, those are the ones you wanna play.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

Isolation. It creates a perfect atmosphere without resorting to jump scares.

Alien Isolation does have it's jump scares, but the interesting thing about them is that they're random, organic, and created as a side-effect of the game mechanics. The alien's AI seems to lend itself to sudden, dramatic reappearances sometimes directly in front of or behind you. And the jump scare that creates is all the more powerful because you really are in danger, whereas jump scares in other games are often just for show. Even if you force the alien to flee, you have to run and hide too because it will be back for you in moments.

Whether by chance or what, I spent about half the game believing the alien wouldn't enter the same air vents in the walls that I could. I guess I just figured it had it's own vents in the ceiling that I couldn't access, since I always saw it enter or exit through the ceiling. Imagine the jump scare when I learned that I could end up face to face with it in the vents.

Absolutely! I'm not at home to check, but I think i have 39 hours in it for one complete play through with no DLC involved. That's an 18-ish hour game plus all the time I spent hiding in closets and under tables, watching my motion sensor and listening for footsteps. And sometimes I spent a couple of days between play sessions until I felt "up to it" again.

yeah I play it for like hour long bursts every few days, it just really wrecks me,

funny enough ,seeing the alien doesn't scare me, as ..well its the alien, I know how it looks, what scares me is the tension and atmosphere, its super tense

Just no, that game is complete and utter shite.

Here's some, they are slightly scary in various ways

Outlast

Outlast Whistleblower

Alien Isolation

Amnesia: The Dark Descent

F.E.A.R  (there are 3 of them, the first 2 are good, the original being the best of the 3)   - also known as Fuck Everything And Run

Dead Space  (trilogy)

Penumbra

Dreadout

>Dead Space (Trilogy)

NO! The games were fun, yes. But only the first Dead Space was scary. The second one had the best story, but not as scary as the first one. And the third one doesn't exist. It never happened.

shhhh we dont talk about it.
