CX430M fan noise

nims0c

For the first few days my CX430M PSU was very quiet. A few days later it began making a ticking noise.

I know this isn't a high-end PSU or anything, but I can't help wondering whether the fan is faulty or normal.

Specs are in my signature. Since the SG13 case has lots of ventilation holes, the noise is audible, although it's not very loud.

Do I suck it up or ask for an RMA and hope the next one is fine?

That's a common problem with that PSU. RMA it :)

Honestly, give it a day or two before you RMA it. My PSU, which is supposedly very good quality, was fine for a week and a half, started ticking for 2 days  then stopped.

what is your gpu?

iGPU. This is just a productivity PC for my mom that I'm currently using as well since my laptop is slow as balls.

It's actually been like 3 weeks. I wasn't sure what to do/didn't have time to deal with it lol.

Yup, that happened to mine, and eventually mine died. I just shoved a 120mm fan in it and it's been working perfect since then.

Then yeah, RMAing it should be your course of action. Just out of curiosity, how loud is it?

How long did it last? I'm not comfortable with modding a PSU.

It sounds similar to the one in

. It's not as loud as these examples:
. So it's not that loud, really. That's why I'm not sure whether this is standard operating noise or a problem.

Either way, it's noticeable in comparison to how it was running during the first few days. The SG13 is such an open case and the PSU fan is facing upwards (as recommended by Silverstone), just under the mesh at the top of the case.

The original fan was about a year. Current mod has been like 2+.

When you take a few apart you really hone in your skills. I just unplug it, try to turn the computer on a few times, and then rip it apart and I'm not dead yet. Hell, I just swapped out one fan for another in it (wire was too short for the new use) about a week ago.
