Hi,

Thinking of upgrading my two 460s to either two 580s or a 970, the two 580s will cost £135 and the 970 is around £260.

Which do you think is the better upgrade?

Alternatively wait for pascal since theres nothing of interest to me coming out soon, its really just an upgrade to be able to play the Witcher 3 well.

Many Thanks

970 all the way, better performance and no SLI issues.

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

Well having been the owner of a 590 (2x 580's) i can tell you, DEFO go for the 970, it'll have more features, vram, more performance, better acoustics, better thermals , can save on getting a good 500-550w PSU Rather than investing in a 700-750w for the 580's, no potential SLI issue's....etc

Two 580's in sli perform as fast as a gtx 680. A gtx 970 is almost twice as fast as that (about 40-50% faster). Not to mention that the gtx 970 won't have trouble with scaling and will use much much less power and overclock better. The gtx 970 is just the better choice without a doubt.

GTX 970. 2 580's might look cool. but they have a lot of cons.

1. dont perform as good

2. runner hotter.

3. use more power

4. less vram

5. SLI (some games dont support it)

6. Driver support might not be as good.

You will be spending a bit more, but 970 is definitely worth it.

.

I put the average price of a few, you can buy a zotac one from scan for £250 and a few others for under £260, I'd prefer the evga for £267 though.
