I currently have a G Skill Ripjaws X 8GB kit which looks completely out of place in my black and blue build since it has a red heatsink. I also have some generic Kingston 8GB RAM lying around, and was wondering if there would be any instability caused by using the Kingston kit instead, since it has no heatsinks at all. I think the G Skill is 1600MHz while the Kingston is 1333 MHz.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

this is what happens.

In reality you can spray paint the heatsink. If the heatsink fits, try!

That's 12V, not 1.5V...

Well i dno how much heat ram can handle ( probably a lot ) but i went from hyperx Blue, with the little heatsinks to hyperX Beast , and the Beast is around 10 C cooler than what the Blue was ( i test this with a temp probe from my fan controller )

Hey there. You are looking mighty fine today, have my virtual cookie!

Its good for looks and just a faster way to dissipate heat it doesn't have to be big and fancy like this(http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=78174&vpn=KHX21C11T2K2%2F8X&manufacture=Kingston) it can look something like this(http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=75598&vpn=KHX13C9B1RK2%2F8&manufacture=Kingston

). I personally think if its 1200mhz+ its a good idea and faster heat dispensation  may decrease risks and maintain a stable performance in gaming and other load heavy tasks. Also this is  good gaming 8gb memory check it out if it fits you budget - http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=78174&vpn=KHX21C11T2K2%2F8X&manufacture=Kingston. :)

Motherboard RAM really doesn't get too hot. Not in typical usage anyway (laptop RAM is naked for example). GPU memory have thermal pads because it's constantly being written to and read from when the GPU is under load and it runs at higher voltages than DDR3. Even then it's only they are only cooled with a chunky finned heat sink on after market coolers.

should probably mention that then as you post. OP might think otherwise

No.. memory doesn't neeeeed heat sinks. Sometimes its actually more harmful to have heatsinks on your memory if you don't have much air flow or w/e.

When you start overclocking your memory and stressing, it does heat up. Having airflow near or over your memory can help with bigger ram overclocks.

Memory can get really hot. Try to keep it 'touchable' while stressing with air cooling.

Soo.. heatsinks, airflow. good stuff.

What exactly do you mean by "gaming memory"? How can memory be optimized for gaming?

should probably mention that then as you post. OP might think otherwise

No I'm not stupid :)

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Most "heatsinks" on cheap RAM aren't even affixed with thermal compound, it's just 3M tape or similar most of the time. For longevity and cool operation, large heatsink RAM has an effect of about 0%, give or take 0%.

Also most if not nearly all the big tin coams look absolutely terrible, for the tasteless or very immature individual.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.
