Nvidia or AMD?

well as we all know AMD  released a brand new series and benchmarks are confusing...

i my self want to buy the best card for my PC:

My PC:

I7 D0 930 4.01GHZ

10GIGS RAM

HD 5850 VAPOR X (current GPU)

620W sea sonic 80 plus

Monitor: lg 23 inch, 1980x1080 60 Hrz

Case: CM HAF 932

 

i have the money for a GTX 980 BUT is AMD better today? i will gladly take a better GPU

The 980 has a sort of bad price to performance ratio with the 980 Ti being just ~200 more. But I'd still go Nvidia either way

The R9 390X is basically a 290X refresh yes it is (at least amd says) better than the 290X but if you are really loking for the better GPU for your self do as linus says, look up the stats of every game you play for each card and from that you caN see witch card gives you better performance, so go get that card, furthermore if you are gaming at 4K it is better (In My Opinion) to get an 8GB R9 390X.

im not gaming at 4k only 1080P. and the money i have to spend is for a 980 range of price. so in that price range what do you think?

then go for a 980. or even a 970, infact 970 is the sweet spot for 1080p gaming now.

The extra VRAM in 390 GPU helps a lot to run in higher resolution, 8GB is more than enough.

If you don't mind the "Power" needed then you can go with AMD. Otherwise you can go with NVIDIA.

^ This, you don't need 8 Gb ram with 390 if the drivers are far too late or for 1080p in general, if you are never playing games more than 1440p, then go for a 970 or a 980.

then we have discussed all the details of pros and cons of both cards, now its only upto your preference that needs selection.

You dont need 980 nor 390, get 970 or 290x and save some money for next release. At 1080p they will max out every game (if the game is made well).

Well i know it says that on the box but i easily run a r9 390x with a 635w PSU. You will get a good gaming experience wichever card you choose. I myself chose the r9 390x over the gtx 980 because i for one wanted to try AMD since i have not had a gpu from them and the 8gb vram on the card is nice also, who knows how much vram you will need in the future. Its like people said you would not need more than 2gb vram for 1080p but recent games easily went over that. I myself come from a gtx 770 2gb card and it stutters like hell if you get over the 2gb. So all in all both are great cards and both trade blows in games.
