You just have to practice. Practice on your posts, practice when you google/bing, practice when you write, practice when you chat, practice in game.

That's the only way you will achieve typing without looking at the keyboard.

I think everything is more efficient typing properly. I don't always have my hands and fingers rested at their "proper" positions, but I don't ever really look at my keyboard unless I'm having one of those days where I can't type for shit.

I'd say it's at least worth it to learn to type without looking at the keyboard but as for where and how to learn I couldn't tell ya--I learned how to do it when I started using my first computer. :P

I try to practice using my pinkeys on A and ;. Helps keep my fingers in check so I know where I'm typing. If I never look down at the keyboard I can usually type about 80 WPM. With some occasional peeking I can do about 90-100.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Just increase the amount of time practicing. I've gained 15+ WPM just from doing practices about once a week. Also typing 5+ page essays helped too. I'm not gonna do the second one for awhile since I'll have more when the next semester starts.

Its more so about the feel, also there are lots of typing games which you can play online which help increase your typing speed and can also help getting into the hang of having to be looking at words coming onto the screen fast so you cant look down or you lose the game when it gets faster ;)

it took me around 2/3 years to be able to type without looking and type with a decent speed.

but whenever I get a new keyboard I'm slow again just so i can get used to it

Basically, learning to touch type is certainly worth it. (I have trouble doing it sometimes, but yeah... that's a time thing for me...) As far as "proper" form goes, I would just use whatever works for you. Barnacules on youtube did a video called something like "how fast can barnacules type" where he did a video of his typing tests. He routinely gets over 100 wpm, but only uses two fingers on his right hand to type. Clearly not proper, but he can type faster than most people. It's all about what works for you, but touch typing really is worth the time and effort, especially if you find yourself quoting a book sometime...

Hey! New SIgnature!
