Hows the card? Thinking the 390x will be my next gpu, just want to know if people are happy with the card, and drivers, and performance, is it smooth? Whats the temp it runs at under full load?

Pretty much whats your experience as an everyday user been, im not interested in online benchmarks and so forth because they can be rigged, i wanna hear it right from an owners mouth.

It's a 290X with slightly less power consumption, lower thermals, 8GB of VRAM, and a 50MHz bumb to the core clock with a massive bump to the VRAM speed.

im not interested in online benchmarks and so forth because they can be rigged, i wanna hear it right from an owners mouth.

If you have the money and you don't mind it being a rebrand, just get the 390. It has improvements, albeit not a lot, but it does have full support for DX12, something the 2xx series does not have.

All that faster Vram hoopla doesn't really do much. You can get a 8gb 290x for way cheaper and it is the same or close to it raw FPS wise

If you have the money and you don't mind it being a rebrand, just get the 390. It has improvements, albeit not a lot, but it does have full support for DX12, something the 2xx series does not have.

Maxwell version 2 supports dx12 feature level 12_1 hence the 12.1 branding that has been on the nvidia cards for the 900 series. GCN amd cards can support up till feature level 12_0, actually all dx 11 cards support dx 12 but not all can support higher feature levels.

The issue I have with this is: has anyone actually defined the limits of Directx 12 on the 200 series?

 

What it very much seems like is that because a lot of the 200 series was rebranded 7000 series then obviously it wasn't all going to be fully Directx 12 capable. However if sticking some extra VRAM on a 290X magically makes it fully Directx 12 capable then that implies to me that the limitation was never 200 series-wide.

 

If I were to hazard a guess, I would suggest that the 265, 285, 290 and 290X are going to be as fully compatible with Directx 12 as the 300 series are because they are the 300 series as it exists at the moment.

290X > 300 series.

Funny you should mention that because the 390 is beating the 290x in actual benchmarks and the 390x beats both. You actually cant overclock the 290x even with a bios reflash to beat a 390x. You are more than welcome to prove me wrong with benchmarks though.

 

They arent straight rebrands they didnt just take the stickers off put new ones on and rebox them. Although they didnt change the GPU the did change other bits on the card and it resulted in a much stronger card over all.
