I've been forced to give in to being a total cheapskate and have this morning ordered an i5 4460 CPU* - my first Quad Core purchase after insisting I don't require one since 2007.

 

The i3 4160 bottlenecks the hell out of my GTX 780Ti when playing GTA V. End of an era for me, upgrades will be a tiny bit more expensive from now on.

 

*Would have been 40 extra to get the unlocked i5, but I am not interested in OCing, this should be more than adequate!

I like i3s but I will dump mine the instant I get a seriously powerful card.

The 780Ti came long after I bought the i3. I never saw myself getting into gaming as much as I have, or I'd have bought totally different hardware to begin with. 

 

I can get good frames from the current combination of hardware, but as Pearsonia has stated, it is not stable at the moment.

 

I'm lucky that I have access to lots of hardware at work, so I was able to prove I literally just needed an i5 of any description to resolve my "issue". I did consider buying a Ivybridge stuff second hand, but meh - I wanted it for the weekend and it's nice to have new things from time to time.

Yeah, I've had my i3 4160 for 8 years on test.

Because the CPU was maxed out when I was getting 45FPS or lower in GTA with high or better settings. In my work PC which had an i5 CPU in it, the frame rate went a lot higher and the CPU usage wasn't maxed.

MUCH better. Good news is that the old i3 sold for £70.00. This upgrade only cost me £70 in effect.

@ 3.6 ghz the 4460 is going to have a much shorter life than the 4690k which will overclock to like 4.4 ghz+

Don't care - I swap and change shit all of the time anyway because it's my hobby. Likely to have an i7k processor coming my way when my brother orders his new gear in a few months anyway.
