Most quiet HDD?

Go to solution Solved by FunkyFeatures,

Hello everyone, I'm building an extremely passive build and I'm looking for a quiet HDD. WD is preferred but I am up to other suggestions, thanks in advance!

You should consider a SSD.

You wont get a silent HDD, my HDD (WD Red) is a little louder than my whole system (but my whole system is silent otherwise). I can recommend you the WD Red though

I think greens are kinda quiet, I guess 5400RPMs are more quieter than 7200

But why no SSDs and a external NAS somewhere where you can't hear it ?

CPU: Xeon 1230v3 - GPU: GTX 770  - SSD: 120GB 840 Evo - HDD: WD Blue 1TB - RAM: Ballistix 8GB - Case: CM N400 - PSU: CX 600M - Cooling: Cooler Master 212 Evo

Update Plans: Mini ITX this bitch

500GB WD green

larger HDDs make more noise but still pretty quiet

WD greens have horrible speeds though, so for a bit more noise you should buy a WD red

Yeah fans normally or gpu cooler, when your pc is under loads fans have to work pretty hard, hdd generally stays fairly quiet, all im saying is hdd is not what makes pc's loud.

My 1TB Barracuda is pretty damn quiet. Definitely quieter than my 250GB WD Blue. Only way I can hear it is if I kill my case fans and GPU fan(s) and then beat the thing to death doing something like loading a virtual machine.
