GTX780! But which?

Hey guys,

so i finally decided to get myself a gtx780. Even though im just rocking a 1080p screen, i want to use its full potential since it has 144hz.

But now comes the difficult part. Which one should i get?

Here are my options:

Custom Cooler:

EVGA ACX SC: 640€

EVGA ACX Classified: 670€

Gainward Phantom: 580€

Gainward Phantom GLH: 620€

Gigabyte Windforce: 590€

MSI Gaming: 640€

Cheapest Reference:

Palit: 575€

So, basically they are all good but i want the best one for the price/cooling performance and looks do matter too.

Im kinda annoyed by this extention on the Windforce, otherwise this would be my first choice.

A few words from owners of one of those cards would be nice! :)

I personally use the Asus GTX 780 Direct CU II and it is a great card I really like it and the cooler is cool and quiet. That cooler helps over clock it higher while using boost 2.0. The EVGA ACX is also a great card and I know a lot of people have been recommending it. So from those card's you have listed I believe the EVGA would be the best one to get.

I would go with one of the cheapest, gigabyte for example, good cooling and allows GPU Boost 2.0 to take the advantage of it well. Basically the most expensive ones are factory overclocked and you are promised with at least those clock speeds so it depends, do you care about clock speed? 780 is a beast of a GPU anyhow even if you don't overclock it, I myself would never spend almost 100€ more on a overclock, but then again that's just me. If you dislike the gigabyte one, just get ACX SC, I've heard it's good.

Well, unfortunately i cant get the Dcu2 right now since it isnt available :( What are your temps on the card?

Yes, overclocks will be done, i just added that to the main post.

Anyhow, i think you get more than just an oc for 100€. For example the Classified as much better power phases which would me allow to oc further. But i dont know if that really matters that much!

I would go with EVGA for their customer service AND the ACX cooler.

Well, since you guys are all for evga, are the +30€ worth it for the Classified or is the normal ACX SC just fine for doing overclocks etc?

I think the cooling improves with the classified aswell since it has more surface for heatfins.

I'd personally go with the MSI TwinFrozr variant. The EVGA cooler doesn't stack up well against the Asus DirectCU cooler or the TwinFrozr. I'd pick the MSI cooler over the Asus one because of the larger fans, better looks (in my opinion), and I've had nothing but good experiences with MSI's customer service.

The classified is getting some serious publicity stunts with those cherry picked versions they gave to kingpin.

I wish the asus and msi would get here soon... else I'll settle for a evga which is the only brand that has custom cooler version here (portugal) so far.

EVGA or MSI, whichever is cheaper when you get it. Asus is horrid as they have bad customer service. Palit is nice but its reference so higher temps. The classified is a beast of a card.

Asus is ok, but their cooler is around the same as the other slightly better and slightly worst but what makes them bad is how they have bad customer service so if your card breaks then there is a high chance that you will have a paper weight. Play it safe and get the classified which is also a great card.

I can only say that I'm very happy with my EVGA GTX 780 SC ACX 3GB GDDR5. Powerful and very silent. What a diference from my previous GTX 285! :D

If you're looking to watercool later on get the Evga acx, it has a reference PCB but still has a great performing cooler.  I think msi/ dcu2 both have non reference so you may have a tougher time locating a waterblock for it

 

If you don't plan on watercooling just get dcu2/msi/evga/gigabyte. I've heard the gigabyte is a tad loud, I think I read an article on some review site the other day about someone having a gigabyte wf3 770 and said it was really loud. But IDK

EVGA has the best customer service that ive ever seen by far. MSI is also good but nothing can touch EVGA for customer service.
