That's what the game says it uses. It also says my GTX 970 uses 4GB VRAM, but I only ever peak at ~3300MB.

So I've been hearing so much shit talked about how the titan x's amount of vram is outrageous and unnecessary because no game uses more than 4GB at 4k. Well, I use a 4k monitor, I have two 780s and just by using geforce experience's auto settings, I reach 8GB. I've heard so many tech reviewers say that you don't need more than 6GB and I'm beginning to wonder if they're lying to their viewers because of the small amount of people who play at 4k that could verify their false claims

 

Don't use auto settings. Really. Don't. Auto settings make you use around 20-40% more VRAM in most cases.

I have 2GB VRAM on my GTX 770 and game said it will use 3.5GB VRAM and I was runing at prety stable 60FPS anyway. I would argue that the in game VRAM indicator is prety inacurate.

That usage is an estimation, not an actual measurement. All GPU's have a pretty effective way of caching too, which is why your setup works even though its 2GB  short.

Exactly this. GTA V stacks Vram, you're using half of whatever GTA says you're using if you're in 2way SLI/xfire.

i dont really think i believe devs these days actually use that much of vram and instead just fill it up with junk for the purpose of "its high quality"  im not saying all devs do this but ive seen games that look normal and for no reason use ~6GB of vram without any noticeable difference in increase quality
