So Confused Right Now...

Just saw a post with a guy that had a GTX 960 and he can run BF4 and other titles at 60FPS+ Ultra at 1080p, and it's really making me question a need for a GTX 970 or 290X. How is a GTX 960 able to max out games at 60+ Ultra? Do I need a GTX 970 or a 290X for my new build? Why should I get one? I want to play any game at 60FPS Ultra like the new batman and other titles we are all so hyped about.

I can run bf4 at ultra 1080p 60fps with 760. It's just bf4.

ya BF4 just runs exceptionally well I frequently see over 100fps and close to 200 on 2 680s while maxed, There will still be placed to utilize a higher end card if you want one. IE a poorly optimized game you will be able to just brute force it better.

Frostbite is a damn good engine.

New games might require more power than a 960 , a 970 would be your best bet as you want to max games out  in the future also at 60 fps.

There are going to be situations where it will fall very short, true a 290x is overkill for 1080p gaming, but even that will struggle if you give it a big enough task.

Plainly, if you only really do light gaming, then a 970 or 290 isn't for you. What you really need is something like a 280 or 960 at the most really. But, enthusiasts are gonna be enthusiasts and buy high end gear to crank everything up to ultra and get butter smooth the whole time while having some horsepower to spare.

People forget to mention AA/AF levels and all other graphics settings. Some people think setting a few of the settings to "ultra" or "Max" means they are maxing out the game when it couldn't be farther from the truth. I wouldn't take anyone's word unless they showed the options menu or explained in detail what settings they are running.

 

Basically just saying it runs X FPS on Ultra means nothing and the only way you could be more vague is to just say it runs.

there is ultra preset, as soon as you change anything it's custom. That is why saying you run it on ultra at x fps actually means quite a bit.

I see the 280X or 290 being the sweat spot for 60fps 1080p with high settings, if you want to add antialiusing jump to the 290X or 970.

I think a lot of people forget how little of a difference there is between the 290 and 290X/970. they are only JUST better.

True and the 290 costs like 60$ less, It's like WTF. But you can sure do high settings on every game with a 290 just not antialiusing on everything as well.

btw op i wouldnt get  GTX 960, it performs worse than the 770 and also only has 2gb of vram, that would cripple on games like gta v, and to the guy who said he gets 60fps on bf4, i bet you thats on very little maps and it doesnt stay at 60fps, the 760 is a rebranded 660 basically.

1080p with no AA in this day and age is kind of blah.  For BF4 I use VSR and play at 1440p on a 1080p monitor with a 290x & mantle, looks fantastic and runs at a pretty steady 100fps.
