Star Wars movies going VR this year

Bouzoo

George Lucas founded ILM 40 years ago to work on special effects in movies, mainly Star Wars. But they became huge. Now, together with Lucasfilm and Skywalker Sound they formed ILM Experience Lab, or just ILMxLab. It's purpose is creating virtual and augmented reality experiences, and Star Wars, obviously, is the first stop.

Let's admit it, we all want this. You know you want it. Imagine pod racing, the Death Star battle or battle of Hoth in VR. I agree, nerdgasm.

This is how it should "look and feel" like. I know, bad quality picture.

The Star Wars experiences created by ILMxLab will debut later this year alongside or even before the debut of The Force Awakens, according to USA Today. And just like ILM and Skywalker Sound work with other filmmakers, the new division will eventually offer its services to Hollywood as well.

A video published to ILM's YouTube account (seen above) gives some truly tantalizing glimpses of what's in store. Using Structure Sensor-equipped iPads and Oculus Rifts, it looks like you'll be able to do things like explore the dusty streets of Tatooine with C-3PO and R2-D2, or pilot an X-Wing.

Also:

It also showed someone petting, yes, petting a velociraptor, which is only a few steps crazier than Chris Pratt racing the intelligent predators with his motorcycle in Jurassic World.

Presentation on what ILMxLAB is

Now for the other part. Oculus was used in the presentation. Does that mean it's gonna be the only VR headset supporting it? I don't see why it should be. I think all VR manufacturers are gonna support it. Otherwise I think it would be a really bad marketing decision.

Are you hyped? I know I am. I might get a VR headset in the end.

no, not replay the movies, just The Sims kind of rollplay, life on the deathstar, replaying the movie would be lame.
