Canon 700D (T5i) Question

Go to solution Solved by ShadowCaptain,

So I've been wondering, I tried recording videos with the 700D, and I can't hear any audio, does that mean that the 700D doesn't have audio recording in video mode?

Turn the onboard mics up?

That said, internal mics on DSLRs are utterly pants

They are not completely trash, but compared to even phones' microphones, they aren't really any better. Even a cheap dedicated microphone would fare more well, though (just not the less-than-30€ garbage).

Either the internal mic is disabled, or then the audio level is so low it's not audible. Practically every camera that has a video recording more has a mic.

Never trust my advice. Only take any and all advice from me with a grain of salt. Just a heads up.

If its worse or on par with a smartphone microphone.. its trash ..nobody should use on board camera audio, grab a VideoMic Go and shove that on top at absolute minimum

EDIT: if you use an onboard mic.. especially if it features talking/voice over.. delete the video :P

Would use an external mic for recording with both my Sony HDR CX260VE camcorder (for recording in school events and such: the only video camera they have is a bloody miniDV camcorder with even crappier low-light performance than that Handycam) and Sony RX100... Too bad only the former has a mic input (but no place to mount a mic), and latter... It's mark 1, so no hotshoe to shove it into.

Don't ask why I have the camcorder. I bought it years ago, only to find myself taking almost solely still images. Wouldn't exactly call the camcorder's mic great quality, but it's good enough for our use. I'm actually trying to somehow sell it to the school for very cheap, it's only collecting dust in my shelf while RX100 is at least getting used.
