AMD Radeon Fury X 3DMark performance

BonSie

You are correct in that the GPU isn't doing any physical "work" (though it is transferring energy into heat). But I did not mix up thermodynamic efficiency with computational efficiency. They are independent, I agree. As I stated; two GPUs with the same TDP will produce the same amount of waste heat. Where they differ, however, is in computational efficiency - where one GPU can perform more calculations per unit of energy used. We're saying the same thing. ;)

Yep. It appears we are saying the same thing :P

Would you be so kind and explain to me what happens to the energie that is used but not transformed into heat, and why that it is not breaking the second law of thermodynamics?

Umm... minus the small amount of work being done by the fan, that is literally exactly what it is.

Energy input must equal energy output. That means that the electrical energy input is equal to the work being done plus the waste heat emitted. The only part of a GPU that is doing work is the fan, and it is a very small amount of work.

I think you are confusing GPU temp with heat generated. The two are obviously related but because of cooler differences they are not the same thing.

Huh?

Joules per second is the correct measurement. Not watts.

Please tell me you are messing with us...

W = J/S

Because you forgot all the intermediate steps and forgot how a circuit is actually designed with a source and a drain? If the circuit is remotely efficient, some of that power goes back to the wall, because it has to, much like power cycling in a battery. If you attach only a positive end to the circuit, nothing will work. Attach only the negative, same deal. Attach both, and you get a cyclical current. The wall is no different. Without a drain, having the source means nothing.

I swear if people actually paid attention in basic high school physics...

Just because 250W of heat are being given off by a circuit per moment does not mean 250W of electricity were used up in that moment. In fact more may have been used or less.

Please don't be one of the people who think power usage = heat generated.

So GPUs can break the laws of physics? I never knew they were that much more capable than consoles xD

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

So, when it finally becomes the 16th (thirty minutes for me unless the release date is July 16th?) do they immediately allow purchases of their cards? Just wondering what to expect when I walk into Bestbuy. I'm kind of hoping I see a massive line of gamers like I do at Wal-mart whenever a new CoD/BF is released.

All we can really hope for is that this card is $100  cheaper than the 980 ti.

I thought they might reveal the card with official benchmarks on the 16th....where did anyone get the idea they are on sale the 16th of June?

Last I heard the 980 Ti beat it in games at E3. They said they are using a prototype...???  And drivers are not working so well....cough...???

So when was this big announcement supposed to occur since it is the 16th as of now... 9 pm eastern time here in the US.

There will be 4 live streams (that I know of) you can follow. TwitchTV, Youtube, PCper and AMD as well. I'll probably be watching AMD, or PCper's live stream. Starts at 12pm EST. :)

Nobody knows what day Fury will be available for purchase, but it better be very soon.

I know. Times have changed. There's something about waiting in line and standing for hours with your fellow enthusiasts waiting to get your hands on the latest and greatest ___.

Now it's just; wait for the "available" notification and click the "buy" button. Very undramatic. lol

This is true but only IF it's cheaper. The Fury XT will not be. The one released in August with 8 GB ram. $849 is the rumored price for the BIG BIG boy.
