As we all know, a bad PSU can blow up and kill your system. but how bad has it been? videos are ok. By generic i mean those cheap psu's that aren't even rated 80+, come inside your machine, etc.

Some are really bad and can't even get more than 70% of what it's max rating, not to mention worse power quality for your components. There are some good OEM or not as common PSU such as Delta's which are considered one of the best for OEM's and the 80+ rating is just for efficiency and not a true measure of a quality PSU, it can be an indicator but other than that not much more.

I once had a really old HP tower. First the hard drive started making weird noises, it started thermal throttling, then the PSU shorted out the entire system. I've never bought an HP since.

A bad PSU can DESTROY everything in your system. There is ONE thing you DO NOT skimp on when it comes to building a PC, and that's the power supply.

While there is a chance your PSU can die on its own, the fact is, it COULD take everything else with it, regardless of what protections the hardware might have, so there is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON AT ALL to take the chance.
