Should i upgrade my CPU/MOBO

Go to solution Solved by i_build_nanosuits,

Hmmmm would you do the upgrade if let's say im paying 100-150SGD in the end (after selling my 4440 and getting the 4770)

not worth it at all...as i said already you won't see any improvements in performance in games...hold on to your current CPU until you move to more powerful graphics solution later down the road...currently your parts are well matched.

if the CPU was the unlocked i7-4770K...then maybe it would be worth it...but the 4770 and i5-4440 perform the same in games.

^

Or should i wait for skylake? And even by then should i upgrade to it?

I wouldn't. Especially if you're only doing gaming.

I wouldn't bother, your current cpu and mobo will be fine for I'm guessing at least 2 years.

I would wait for whatever is after skylake.

Hmmm but if my friend is looking to sell his i7 4770 should i get it? :o

Because he has his i7 4770 on a z87 mobo (which is kinda wasted) so he wanna get the K version....

price?

No idea.... Probably the standard 2nd hand price in singapore

I would say around 200-250SGD??~

The 4770 is around 2-3 years old.... What is the standard pricing for it?

What benefits are there of a 4770 vs a 4440?

sorry i really do not know what the reselling price of an i7 4770k in singapore is :P

one benefit is hyper threading and you know just overall better performance

but do you play a lot of games or are you doing some editing as well?

i5-4440 and R9 290X is a good match for a gaming PC, wait till you buy a new GPU later on and then maybe upgrade your platform if it can't keep up with it then.

What benefits are there of a 4770 vs a 4440?

for gaming: nothing...since the 4770 is not even unlocked it can't be overclocked and most of the gaming extra performance would come from higher clock speed...not extra threads...you will get the same performance in games from both chips.

No, same price as z97. x99 was expensive for me due to the fact that it's an enthusiast platform. z107 is like z97 in the sense that it is consumer-based. It will last you longer. Don't go with the 4770, get an 6th gen i5.

Alright guys! I'll hold off the upgrade till skylake is out (or my next gpu upgrade hehe)

Thanks for the advice!

Actually when would you suggest a GPU upgrade for me? I was thinking when 4k becomes the norm....

xD Would my i5 4440 be a bottleneck by then?

no, 4K is VERY GPU demanding, and your CPU will max out a 980ti at 4K no problem...but i would personally buy a 1440p 144hz display instead.

But 1440p 144hz cost like 1500SGD here right now LOL.... a 4k panel cost about 1000sgd

make sure it's a 60HZ 4K panel, cause the cheap ones usualy are only 30Hz (so only 30FPS)

But still a 4 digit number for a 4k panel.... I think imma wait till they are around 400~sgd before considering xD

(And once you go IPS you can not go back so imma look for an ips panel too :D)

This is gonna be a gruesome 5 years of wait D:
