I'm running 7 myself and I still haven't gotten the notification either.

Welcome to the forget club :(

Desktop: CPU: I7-5820K GPU: 980Ti, 750Ti PhysX Mobo: MSI X99A SLI PLUS RAM: 4x4 Kingston DDR4 2400MHz OS: Win10
Storage: 250GB Samsung Evo, 3TB WD Black and Green FIRESTRIKE, Reason for dedicated PhysX Card.
Peripherals: Screen: 3x BenQ VZ2350 Mouse: Razer Naga Keyboard: Some Dell Thing Sound: Razer Tiamat, 5.1 Logitech Surround Speakers

Either way, you two still are allowed to upgrade for free. I'm sure you can get it once it releases in July.

I'm excited. But, unless they release an ISO, I wont install. I don't trust in place upgrades. I rather reformat and Start with a fresh install. Having to sit through a Windows 7 install then install windows 10 is just a pain. I hope its a better OS than windows 8. 

WIn8 is a good OS (better than win7 software wise)... Just plain ugly I got StartIsBack from Day1 and problem solved :S

I can honestly say that from the tech previews, I have seen some good things from it. Plus Cortana is gonna be on iOS and Android too.

I find Microsoft's approach kinda aggressive with Windows 10. 

Having that icon stay there in my bar no matter what is annoying me, reminds me of adware haha :D

 

Anyway I am looking forward to Windows 10, Windows 7 has served me well and I've been very happy with it but I feel that it's time to switcharoooo.

You should update the thread with information on Windows 10, a guide on how to force the update if it isn't there (see below for one example I found. I think it is for Win8.1) and whatnot. Maybe the mods will pin the topic or merge all of the loose Win10 threads...boy that would be nice.

 

Have update "KB3035583" installed. Reboot. If the logo isn't there to update follow:

 

 

Open Control Panel > Open Administrative Tools > Open Task Scheduler > Expand on the left "Task Scheduler Library" > Expand MICROSOFT > Expand WINDOWS > Scroll down > Expand SETUP > Click the folder "GWXTriggers". Finally to the far right of the window there should be a bunch of options. Click "Run".

I have a pirated copy of W7 Ultimate and I just got the W10 notification. I thought MS wouldn't allow non genuine copies of Windows to upgrade?!

 

They are going to allow the pirated copys of windows get the update for a while then allow you to pay to keep it making it a genuine copy of windows.

Sorry if this gas been asked before. Has anyone tried any games with win 10? How is the performance?

I haven't had a chance too as VMplayer didn't detect my GTX 960 GPU.

Yeah they are good. Their tricky to learn how to use but their good.

Ummm dumb question but when I click the icon it won't do much right? Also when I update to win 10 will it carry over all my settings, applications etc from win 8.1?

No after you accept the offer, that's it. It will be released July 29th I believe. As for a carry over, that I can't confirm right now.

I hate the 'technically true but I'll call it false' advertising they did with Windows 10. When I read 'Windows 7 & 8 users will upgrade free' I expected to get a permanent full version, not a year long trail. I do want Windows 10 but I don't want any problems with upgrading and then downgrading in a year. Is it better to not bother upgrading because I know for a fact I won't be paying to upgrade in a years time? It's just so frustrating that they advertised a full upgrade, which in fairness they give, but turn around and say it is for a year only. I will always remember to never assume Microsoft will give me free things.

I keep hearing these same words over and over. So do believe your right!  I'.m just wondering, if I "upgrade" from win 7 to win 10, is my win 7 disk any good?

To answer you both. If you LEGALLY upgraded, you get the full copy for free. It's NOT a TRIAL it is a FULL copy of Windows 10 - period!

Yea, I don't know where you got it would be only a year install/key. It just means it will be free for people to pick up for a year only. After that people will have to purchase it. If you legally own a Win7/8 machine and reserve and install during the free year, you get it forever. No trials or anything.
