so, i have been having this issue with my rig since December when i got it working. the computer will randomly fully lockup, speakers will stutter and no inputs will work. i have tested the CPU + Ram with P95, but only for Approx. 10 on each p95 Stock test, but no errors. Also, i used the video cards with my old system that had a Q6600 in it and worked flawlessly. this problem has just started happening with my AMD chip.  Help?

Edit1 - Heard that my mobo ( MSI 970 G ) had a problem with Vishera chips.. and I've never done a BIOS flash...yeah.

Bump!

All stock clocks right? No oc?

Try a BIOS update but I suspect that's not the real issue. Check windows event viewer to see if it gives you an error code other than 41 (kernel power fault, unexpected shutdown). That might give you a lead as to what component is the culprit.

under Admin Events, Event viewer is mostly errors of apple's bonjour service,  NvstreamSvc (rare) , amd_sata, Kernel - Pnp , and others. theres 6,707 events total.

 the CPU is at 4,40GHz.

That right there is probably your issue. Return the CPU to stock settings and monitor it for a day or two. Try and recreate the crash.

970 chipset boards are rarely suited for overclocking an FX8.

  • 2 weeks later...

alright well, update time. I had a HDD failure about  4 days ago (partition failure, i guess.) and 650GB of data was lost. :o  I had a copy of Win 7 HP on hand and an old 500GB + like 8 80GB- 40GB assorted 7200RPM HDD's , so the rigs back running. Back ups are done weekly to one of the 80GB drives in the rig now. in total, there are now 3 HDD's in my rig, a 500GB for Steam/etc Games , a 80GB for Win 7/ "meh" programs (VLC base, drivers, etc) and the other for backups. im NOT going through that again, but the problem of random freeze ups keep happening. BTW, I get MSI BIOS codes 99, 9c, and one other. ill update it in 10 mins or so.

Edit 1 - Turns out MSI post code 99 is normal i guess. it flickers between 99 and 9c when booting into BIOS, or doing the check.

Edit 2 - 99, 9c, and A2 are all normal. NVM. back to main issue. Freezing OS randomly. wth?

Run some SMART tests on those hard drives. It's rarely a good idea to use old hard drives as a backup. Too risky.

Use something like CrystalDisk to run some tests on them. Those random freezes sound like they're tied to your storage solutions. Have you disabled Indexing? That sometimes helps.
