TV vs Monitor

Go to solution Solved by Ice_Stormz,

Hey UnknownIndividual,

I've used a 32" Dynex TV for gaming. I've used it with my PS4 and a steam machine.

There was no unnecessary lag but the biggest concern was latency was roughly 1 second. There was the

occasional death due to response times but nothing TOO major. If you can live with dying a couple extra times

for the extra screen real estate, then I highly recommend going for it!

Hope this helps, and let me know if you have any more questions.

You can get a number of 1080p 60Hz monitors on the cheap ~$200. But using a TV isn't that bad.

The "lag" only matters if you're pretending to be a pro CS:GO player.

Git Gud.

So I am trying to save some money and use my Toshiba 32inch HDTV as a monitor for use and gaming but I heard that it would lag. Can anybody help on if I should use the tv to save money?

It will look pretty terrible 32" up close at 1080p, but it should work fine, it wont "lag" but there will be higher latency than a normal monitor

if you are not gaming competitively it will be ok - but I would save up and get a proper monitor

So should I use my tv for now then save my money to buy a monitor later?

Dude, playing CSGO competitively isn't pretending to be a pro.

Yeah. Monitors make a huge difference.

So would it impact me if I'm playing a game such as GTA V?

Not for GTA, no. ALthough game mode would be suggested if available.

As has been said before...the ms of "lag" between a run of the mill display and a display of 1ms is only going to matter to those in competitive gaming...if you are not playing games competitively for cash, you are in no way going to be effected by a slightly longer display response time.

using a 40" tv 1080p , sitting 2 ft away

for a whole year i am totally fine with it, but 4k is soo much better at this size.

its night and day

edit: the tv should be fine, i experience no unreasonable lag.

It'll look better if it's a 21" since it has better PPI and it'll be more clearer. Try sitting directly in front of let's say, a 50" TV. You'll probably be able to see the RGB pixels in the TV.

well you get used to it after a year. the better ppi of my 24" monitor doesn't matter if i can barely see it from the same distance.

i don't have amazing eye sight. from a reasonable distance like when i lean back in my chair, i am unable to notice the rbg subpixels (its 4')

my plan is to go to 4k because at this size the extra pixels help alot. for 500$ you can upgrade to a 50" 4k display (http://www.amazon.com/Sceptre-U508CV-UMK-50-Inch-Glass-Ultra/dp/B00S4HI7CO/ref=sr_1_2?s=tv) and ain't that just fine.

big screens are a lot better for watching movies on no doubt.
