Games which use a lot of your CPU such as pinning it to 100%

Games which don't efficiently use all your cores like DayZ, Arma 3

In gaming?

Sometimes, but not in most games because they don't use CPU much.

Most games you won't see much of an improvement honestly. Only poorly coded and games that use 1-2 cores.

Rendering and encoding, shaves 10-45s/1min+ off TTC depending on the file type and size, also depends on what software you are using. Will also give desktop tasks a little more "snappyness", assuming you're on SSD's and not platters.
