Where would overclocking improve performance? I have an i7 4790K

Sometimes, but not in most games because they don't use CPU much.

Well it helps some with rendering I think but I don't know much about that. I only know games sorry

Yes and programs like photoshop and premier.

Most games you won't see much of an improvement honestly. Only poorly coded and games that use 1-2 cores.

Rendering and encoding, shaves 10-45s/1min+ off TTC depending on the file type and size, also depends on what software you are using. Will also give desktop tasks a little more "snappyness", assuming you're on SSD's and not platters.
