If anyone's been looking you will see the r9 390 is a new chip and everything down from that is a re-brand.

R9 290 becomes r9 380, etc.

380/x refined process of Hawaii that reportedly overclocks a lot higher.

370/x Full Tonga (new) and 285 tonga (newish).

 

I think the last time we saw AMD do a completely new overhaul was with the birth of GCN and their asynchronous shader engines, back with the HD7000 series.

What if.. The 300 series is a $500 GPU that gets benchmarks like a Titan X? Bam $500 saved. To bad to do this they'd have to water cool it like the 295x
