So this is typical, but I yet have another problem with one of my new graphics cards, it sounds exactly like this -

Either way I am going to have to return this graphics card so would you guys say its worth sitting on my gtx670 until the new AMD releases or grab a new 970 for the third time?

I can't watch the video atm but coil whine is normal, chances are the new amd cards will have it as well. So... You shouldn't return at all.

Its not just coil whine, The fan sounds like it spins irregularly and annoys the hell out of me

Seems normal to me, the card does have 3 fans. You're probably just experiencing new tech jitters, when you buy something new and see every little thing that bugs you but you use it for 2 months and at the point you realise you don't really care.

I'd  go for a different model of 970 - some are fine for coil whine. Or I guess you could wait if you were okay with far worse performance for quite a while.

Not true, most models have a chance of getting it.

At the end of benchmarking it makes a very long and very loud screeching sound. I mean very very loud to the point it sounds like it will break

I made a topic a while back in which I said that the coil whine on my G1 970 disappeared after a few days of folding.

It's worth the shot.

You should record that and put it on this thread, that could be cause of concern. If it is then yeah, RMA. I wouldn't recommend waiting for the new AMD cards though because waiting is a trap that I fell into. Think of it like this, you might get a slightly better card in the end because of the wait but all of the time in-between you could have been having a good gaming experience. I guess it depends on how much you value your time, it's also quite risky, like how everybody (and I mean pretty much everybody) was saying to wait for the 960 and when it came out, yeah... Big waste of time.

Im definately returning the card. I already packed it up and im taking it back on saturday but I have a question. I have an opportunity to get the Asus STRIX GTX970 for 330$ USD After taxes since there is a huge sale, or I could get another G1 Gaming for 430-450$. What should I do?

Thats what I was thinking. That will save me money for going SLI later or something. I guess I will have to sacrafice the G1's overclocking but for a quieter card. Can you tell me the pros and cons of the STRIX since you have one yourself

I like the Stix, it's pretty much like every other 970 but yeah you won't get as much as a G1 in overclocking. I guess there's really no cons to me compared to other 970s besides the fact there's no logo on the side lighting up and it doesn't have as good power delivery. Other than that it's a fantastic card. Especially at $100 off.

I've got the same problem, Gigabyte used cheap components with the G1 Gaming.

Every feature that it has is very appealing compared to most of the other GTX970s however the cheap components really crash the party

Yep, my 650Ti is surprisingly enough of a higher quality. A backplate and fancy cooler don't dictate quality.

Its debatable, and I've only got the G1 Gaming, but at the end of the day they are all the same card just with different looks.

Yup, it only affects overclocking and even then you can still get a good OC on a Strix. You could have one that beats your current G1, it's all about the luck. It's just less likely with a strix because you can't push as hard with the power.

I do not mess with upping voltages during overclocking because I am inexperienced and dont want to harm anything anyways. Thanks for the help I really appreciate it :) I will do a poll to get more opinions but I think i have made up my mind

If you don't mess with the voltages and power limit then it's going to pretty much be the same. Just slightly higher temps compared to the 3 fan G1. Also, glad to help. :)
