Linking 2 PSU together still safe to use?..

trueno2k

What issues would I come across by using one of THESE ( shown in picture below ) to link up two different PSUs to gain similar same power output of a single high power PSU of the same caliber?.. Would appreciate all the help I can get here please?..

Thanks...

why is this nessesary for you? psu is litterally the cheapest thing in a rig. i would suggest upgrading your psu to something with more power if it is necessary. from your specs in your signiture, you do not need this for your rig. 650w is fine for your rig.

I know that some people have 1 psu for there main system and another for there gpus but I would say that it's better to get one psu that's big enough for everything in your system.

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

I3 4150, Intel HD graphics, corsair CX750M, 4gb ram, Asus H81M-E, corsair 230T, Intel stock cooler WD Green 2TB Gigabyte 550TI

Why you shouldn't trust Gpu or Cpu boss Click on this I dare you!

Why would you want to do that

Pretty sure at it says, these are for mining PCs, and not for powering proper PCs

Personally i wouldnt want 2 PSUs in, extra noise, extra heat, another area of failure which could damage hardware

Linking 2 PSU's should be safe, all the connectors work just the same on both PSU's, regardless of what is connected, as long as the secondary PSU is wired to even give power.

The overall safety of it depends on the PSU's being used.

EDIT: note that you need to wire a few pins from the 24pin connector on the secondary PSU for it to work, you can google which pins to use.

Still, just because it works on paper doesn't necessarily mean it is a great idea, consider getting proper PSU.

And it would be nice to know why you are considering this in the first place.

Spoiler

Case Bitfenix Ghost, Mobo Asus Maximus VIII Ranger, CPU i7 6700K @4.2 Ghz cooled by Arctic cooling Freezer i30, (barely). GPU Nvidia GTX 970 Gigabyte G1 @1519Mhz core, RAM 16Gb Crucial Ballistix CL16 @2400Mhz. SSD 128GB Sandisk Ultra Plus as my OS drive. HDD's  1TB  Seagate ST31000524AS its OEM, 3TB Seagate Barracuda, 2x 500GB WDC Blue (RAID 0)

If it isn't working absolutely perfectly, according to all your assumptions, it is broken.

Antec has something like this. It's called OC Link, where it lets you run up to 2 HCP PSUs.

Intel Xeon E5 1650 v3 @ 3.5GHz 6C:12T / CM212 Evo / Asus X99 Deluxe / 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 3000 Trident-Z / Samsung 850 Pro 256GB / Intel 335 240GB / WD Red 2 & 3TB / Antec 850w / RTX 2070 / Win10 Pro x64

HP Envy X360 15: Intel Core i5 8250U @ 1.6GHz 4C:8T / 8GB DDR4 / Intel UHD620 + Nvidia GeForce MX150 4GB / Intel 120GB SSD / Win10 Pro x64

HP Envy x360 BP series Intel 8th gen

AMD ThreadRipper 2!

5820K & 6800K 3-way SLI mobo support list

Thanks all for your comments!.. Very appreciated!.. ;)

I thought that was the point of one of these?..

And it would be nice to know why you are considering this in the first place.

I have a spare Antec 620w PSU for backup just in case the one in my rig ( see siggy ) suddenly dies, I can switch to it with little time wasted...

However, if the rig PSU is still live and kicking and if I ever need a second GPU in the future and I come across a great secondhand price this spare PSU combined with my rig PSU using that adapter would give me a quick solution to my power requirements and help give me that extra time towards saving up for that proper high powered quality PSU, and also that extra time to save up for that GPU upgrade to replace this GPU and my future crossfire upgrade GPU ( just my way of method to my madness [emoji14] )...
