Hey guys n' gals,

I'm wondering if the Alienware X51 gaming desktop is good/worth it. I have a friend who really wants a PC but doesn't want to build one I don't think so I'm trying to find one to recommend to him. I think he likes the idea of an Alienware PC and I need advice.

So yeah. It has a GTX 960 in it which I suppose is good right? It also has an i5-4460 and 8GB of DDR3-1600 memory.

So yeah, what are your thoughts about it? Worth it? Should I recommend it or is there some other Alienware PC I should recommend instead (staying in the price zone)?

Also I'm confused if it comes with a keyboard and a mouse because he already has one.

Thanks again :)

Do you have a product specs page? Prebuilts usually cut on motherboard/power supply. Also, what is the price?

Probably better off buying from sites that build and ship whem to you. If it needs to be "branded" try going for something bit special than an Alienware, their design isnt mindblowing for the asking price.

I think u can probably ask some folk on this forum that lives nearby you to help out with building a PC lolz for some drinks and/or cash xD

Well build one anyways :)

Simply not wanting to is a dumb argument and Alienware is really not an option.

well it really isn't that easy and cheap to build a 10 litres system that has the same performance.

Why is it not a good option?

Just make one yourself.. you have kind of a crappy GPU in there (960 sucks hard, sorry) and your CPU should be an i5 4690k, especially if you want a gaming cpu that needs to be able to play games in the future aswell.

Get a 970 or 980 + i5 4690k with a z97 asus mobo... i'm sure you can get all this for around the same price and it'll be FAR FAR better than that alienware.

To actually answer the question. It's a good PC. I have a friend who has one and was even able to upgrade it to a 970. The slim line design is something you wont get in a custom PC. It's a good turn key solution.

The two least-garbage prebuilts I can find are from CyberpowerPC. Every other prebuilt I can find is like OMG CORE i7-4790k SO GOOD GAMER SWAG 420 (r7 240 gpu)

Not bad specs, and not too big of a price premium. They also include Windows. You could probably built the same computer except with a SSD for that price

How is the 960 crappy? It's the nvidia 1080p gpu anyone should get.

you're just hating

alienware and good should never be placed in the same sentence, unless your saying "alienware do a good job at ripping people off" then you have the right context

960 is meh at best, it is barely better than 760.

"Barely better than the 760" -Almost performs the same as a 770-

For the same money you can get a 280... and it performs way better, there's really no reason to pick the 960.

According to benchmarks it's almost the same as a r9 270x.. how is that good, especially for a really high priced gaming computer

So apparently it costs over 1000$ This is much better option http://pcpartpicker.com/p/tfRCkL

And just to show how overpriced alienware is, this is build almost identical to the 1000$ one that they sell http://pcpartpicker.com/p/p3PhrH

I can only advise from staying as far away from Alienware as you can. My brother bought an MC17R3 for about 3500€ a while back and this piece of junk came broken out of the box, would overheat frequently and everytime the support guy showed up at our door step the machine would run even worse, like worse worse. Be a friend and tell him to stay away from Alienware. Show him what kind of machine you could build for him for the same price or less. He's gonna hate life 6 months down the road if he buys an Alienware. Especially those small towers, nothing but noise and overheating.
