How do i connect my monitor with mini display port?

I just bought Dells 4K monitor(P2715q) and it only came with a mini display port,USB 3.0 and power cable(No HDMI and No Display port). When i connect mini display cable to monitor nothing happens. What should i do? I don't want to connect it through HDMI as it restrict my monitor to run at 30Hz only.

What connections does your GPU have

You need a powercable at first :P

the Dell P2715Q comes with a Mini-DP to DP cable.

You can either plugin the Mini-DP into the monitor and the DP into your GPU or the other way around ;)

HDMI and Disply port (Asus GTX980)

then plugin the Displayport end into your GTX 980 and the Mini-DP into your Dell P2715Q

You need a powercable at first :P

 

It does have a power cable, that was typing mistake.

How are you connecting through mini DP?

Your GPU has 3xDP, 1xHDMI and 1xDVI..

Then you should be connected DP to DP or DP to mDP

I did that, i connected the mini port to the monitor and Display port in GPU but nothing happens. It says the monitor will go into saving mode after 5minute

that is strange.

It definetly should work that way. That is how I have connected my P2715Q to my GTX 760 ;)

- have you tried different Displayport connectors on your GTX 980?

- is the mDP Input selected on your Dell?

- to you have a second monitor connected to your 980?

It's working now, I had to choose mDP from the monitor Menu.
