Hmmm, the 960 will be able to utilize more dx12 features. The 280 will have some dx12 features, but not as much as an actual dx12 card. 960 is less watts and runs a lot cooler than a 280. Therefore my spidey senses say 960.

I love NVidia, but the 280 is better performance than the 960

They're basically the same over many games, but r9 280 has 3gb of vram.

Well all GCN-architecture cards will be able to fully utilize dx12 ... cooler? It really depends on the card you have, my ggigabyte R9 280 newer goes above 70°C.

My r9 280 achieves over 36 fps in metro last light with SSAA. but the amd cards seem to have problems in games, that support physx (the GPU ussage of a amd card goes down to 50% when physx is activated).

Once the 960 is overclocked (and it's a great overclocker) the performance gap widens. Plus you won't have to worry about a certain game not having optimized driver support (MLL for ex). Having 3GB makes it sound like the 280 is a better card for gaming, real world gaming benchmarks show this isn't the case. This is coming from a 7950 owner.

You mean the slight drop in FPS? The R9 280/280x, although outperformed, they are more affordable new and used with comparable performance. At their price point, they give the 960 a run for its money.

Doesn't matter since GPU boost already clock your 960 to 1.3ghz-1.4ghz anyway.
