Safe to use radiator without fans?

Run it like you would normally with no overclock. If it's too hot, unplug a titan and repeat. /thread.

another example of blowing it out of proportion... he doesn't need to undervolt anything.  the "general" watercooling rule is one 120 fan cool rad area per heat source, he as 3 heat sources and a 360 rad full of fans, plus a 240 rad with no fans...  all he has to do is turn up the fans on the 360 more than they'd normally run at

 

 

 

I'd like to hear the long answer to all of these short answer no's... he has enough cooling to use his pc normally without freaking out.  

3930k runs hotter than average cpus and the general rule of thumb is one 120 per heat source plus another 120 and even if it can run would you be okay with running at 80+ degrees keep in mind that the fanless 240 will do almost NOTHING

Really tough should least use some low rpm silent fans

 

Tough you could use a automatic fan controller and tweak it such way to be nearly deadly silent at idle temps for example

I doubt the 3930k at stock clocks will hit 80 with that setup on anything short of running p95 (or something else that puts 100% load on all cores),  saying its not safe to run even really light loads at anything over an hour is an extreme exaggeration.  and yes, I'm aware that a fanless 240 will do ALMOST nothing

The thing is his pump could overheat (yes pumps overheat) or his resivoir could melt (I'm serious some xspc resivoirs melt when they reach too high temperatures

its not like he's trying to run all this off one 120 rad...  2 fans are not gonna make that much of a difference.  if the pump/res was in danger of melting with 3 fans, then 2 wouldn't be all the much safer.  like I said before, he just needs to turn up the speed a bit more on the 3 fans that are on his 360

My pump almost overheated when I was leak testing my loop for a few hours. (Could have just gotten a bad pump)

But my point is that he can use it if he has to but it probably won't be to smart to do any demanding thing and he should turn it off when it's done so the heat of the water doesn't build up

basically you could probably run your pc but why....youve spent all this money and time on building what quite frankly is a beast and you want to run it hot for a couple of days......just wait for some extensiones and then use it.....i wouldnt risk it if i were you....

omg the first few people in this post are ridiculous. you can totally do not use fans on a radiator. ive even used a 120mm rad with no fans on my Corsair H60. My cpu was overclocked to 4.2 GHz(Intel 3570k) and my temps would max out at 78 Celcius under prime 95. (my voltage was like 1.185 or something like that[it was definetly under 1.2])
