Can laser mice track on glass?

orangecat

I was reading a article someone made on overclock.net and it said that laser mice could track on glass. Is this true or total crap because I have a G700S that has a laser sensor and it doesn't track for crap on my desk (its tinted glass).

Why does my G700S not then?

It may not be a high-end one. I wouldn't expect that from a $60 wireless mouse. Yours is probably just a low-end laser. I have a Razer Taipan and it does.

If you have a newer mouse, it should. (SHOULD)

Price usually won't matter, as someone does not need to be a "gamer" or "business person" to be expected something simple like tracking on glass. (Should have a pad anyway but whatever)

No, Optical systems which arent specifically designed to track on glass arent supposed to, maybe they work, but not without problems(e.G. Malfunction Speed).

S9818 is based on A9800, same as Logitech´s S9808.

G700s is optical m8

EDIT: I am wrong.

It should utilize Logitech's Darkfield technology. I don't know if the G700s is new enough to utilize that.

What's darkfield tech? I assume it's infrared laser but I'm not sure as i can actual see the laser inside at extreme angles but it's not bright and doesn't show on up surfaces.

Darkfield is a few years old by now, it also isnt "tech" but simply a marketing designation for a certain sensor that can track on a lot of surfaces. G700s doesnt track on glass because that was never the goal of A9500.
