Games for a Crappy Laptop?

So I'm at my uncle's home for 3 months and all he has is a unusual crappy laptop, I want to know which games can I play on it.

The CPU is surprisingly decent for a cheap laptop but the Graphics Card, ugh.

I wish they did a 50-50 balanced system, damn you HP.

Processer: Intel Core i7-720QM 4-Core 1.60GHz

Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 230m

RAM: 4 GB

Display: 1366x728 (720p)

Welcome to the Forum.

You may be able to play Minecraft on it. Half-Life series games should be fine.

Sig under construction.

The 4 GB of RAM will be your bottleneck, Minecraft will run perfectly fine, as will Terraria, Portal, etc. Most indies such as FTL: Faster Than Light and VVVVVV will run perfectly.

Decent CPU? you might be able to run games like Planetary Annihilation, but that is fairly RAM intensive

And of course, there is always Tetris.

I can also recommend Super Hexagon, Antichamber, and other such Indies

Saints Row 3 should run OK on it.

Well, with an i7, GTX 1080, Full tower and flashy lights, it can obviously only be for one thing:

Solitaire.

Is there a way to do that automatically?

source games, marbleblast, halo, minesweeper, terraria, unturned, minecraft etc.

see if your laptop has its GPU on a card, maybe you can upgrade it?

The laptop has a 60 Hertz monitor so the lag will be unbearable for me.

It's my uncle's laptop. Of course I'm not going to upgrade it just for playing games for 3 months.

what do you mean? are you not happy with 60 FPS?

I game on a 60 Hz monitor, 60 is smooth.

Saints Row 3 should run OK on it.

Are you kidding? I tried it on my laptop (730M, 4700MQ, 8GB ram) and got like 45 fps @ 720p lowest graphical settings, in the damn building that you start the game in.

Since when was OK 60 FPS?

45 FPS is playable, it was just a suggestion, if you want silky smooth framerates on that laptop you will only be able to play indies and source games.

You could try and emulate some classic games if that's your thing.

Anyway, what I would recommend:

  • Any older NFS title(Underground 2, Most Wanted 2005, Carbon,etc.)
  • Guacamelee (very good game, I highly recommend it!)
  • Dust an Elysian Tail
  • Oddworld Abe's Oddysee , Abe's Exodus and, if you can run it, New'n'Tasty(the first 2 games are quite old though, back from late 90's)
  • Ori an the Blind Forest
  • Command and Conquer 3 & Red Alert 2/3
  • Volgarr the Viking
  • Hotline Miami 1/2
  • Transistor
  • CS 1.6
  • etc.

You can run these games. I can run them on my craptop from 2007 which has intergrated graphics(and I only spent $500 on it at that time).

then that has nothing to do with the laptop having a 60 Hz monitor

Dude be grateful, right now I have to play on a shitty AMD APU and can get 60 FPS sometimes with Minecraft. (Build in description is my planned build when I have money). Anyways deal with what you can for now until you can get back to your own PC or laptop.

Those games would do just fine and you don't need to emulate anything.
