I currently have an AMD A10-5800k processor and an NVIDIA GTX 750 Ti. I can play a lot of games at 1080p with ultra settings. Although the power consumption of the A10 is too high for my rig to begin with, and I felt that the iGPU of my A10 is a waste of energy. So I'm planning to change my mobo and processor to a haswell G3258 and an ASUS H81 mobo. Although it has only 2 cores, it has the best bang for the buck and has better single core performance than my A10. So my question is, is the upgrade worth it?

That's not necessarily an upgrade at all.

AMD 4 cores 4 treads to a Intel 2 core 2 treads is a downgrade IMO

i3 or the i5 4460 will be actual upgrades

OP save up for a better CPU

You would be much better off buying an i3 than a Pentium.  That will be a true upgrade.

Isn't the i3 a dual core too?

that is a substantial downgrade performance wise however that would improve upgradability as the lga1150 socket is what 4th gen i3, i5, and i7 processors use

Yes, part of my reason for buying a G3258 is to have a better CPU in the future. With my current FM2 socket, there are no available upgrades other than a A10-6800k

Yup. But hyperthreading gives it 4 threads vs G3258's 2. And on a dual core chip, hyperthreading makes a much bigger difference than it does comparing i5 to i7.

It uses Hyper-Threading.

Oh I get it. Another question, my budget isn't enough for an i3 YET. I only have the budget for a G3258. Would it be reasonable to retain my current system and save up for an i3 or i5 in the future?

I think that would be the better option. It's the difference between buying a cpu once, or buying two cpu's. Save money now to save money overall.

I'd suggest upgrading when you need it. The difference in power consumption isn't much at all and there should be an option to turn off the integrated graphics in the motherboard settings.

Yes.

Upgrade now if you NEED it, if you don't wait and save up. I recommend you to wait until you can buy an i5 4th gen (k). It'll be more than worth your money.

Ugh...the iGPU in your A10-6800K gets disabled when you have a graphics card installed (that is not compatible with Hybrid Crossfire). Disabled as in turned off, so it isn't drawing any power.

IMO, save up UNTIL you can get a i3 or i5. Getting a G3258 now and upgrading to a i3 a few months later isn't very good decision.
