970 sli or 980

Snake21

Hmmm well technically the 970s will perform better in every scenario but the vram worries me at 4k.

But rarely should you hit "ramgate" so 970 SLI without a doubt.

EDIT: Then again @othertomperson runs 4k fine..

SLI 970 performs better than single 980, but if you get 980 in the first place you can SLI it later and performs way better than SLI 970. If I were you I'd get single 980 as it produces less heat and power than SLI 970, but it's up to you.

980, then SLI. Gives you a bit of future proofing with the vram.

No problems for me with gtx 970 sli at 4k res. Playing gta V with 3.7gb vram usage no aa, ultra settings, 50-60fps. No suhtters or fps drops. Can make a video if you want and test or make video of other games.

970 SLI => 50-80 fps

980 => 20-30 fps

No amount of vram will make a single 980 better than multiple 970s at 4K. 970 SLI performs similarly to a Titan X.

Titan X SLI or AMD r9 395x2 when it comes out.

For 4K surround/eyefinity, perhaps... Seriously the ridiculous things people are saying in this thread...

I would wait till the end of may. There should be new stuff coming out fairly soon that could be well worth it and a better solution as well.
