Not what I mean, I am talking about the lighting and the style. Macro is fairly simple figuring out those shots by trial and error is not.

You need a lens with a high aperture to be able to get close focus on the subject and have the background dark and out of focus

You need a good tripod with preferably a fluid head

Yes the lighting. I have got the camera movement part down a while ago, lighting I am still learning.

Usually it's making the room dark but have light on the subject, and then get another flash light or something and move that smoothly to get that effect. You want to have the subject light (doesnt move) pointing away from the subject (in this case a Titan x)

Uh no, its not called B roll

 

B roll is secondary footage, either to provide an image of what the host is talking about, ie "it comes in 3 colour options" - Camera cuts away to show the 3 colours

or used to disguise a cut/zoom/relocation, or maybe to provide a flashback or alternative angle to the main footage

 

Any secondary footage is considered B roll no matter the technique that was used to film it

I'm not quite sure, but it doesn't seem like the focus changes during the shot. Usually when you do product overviews like this you use the focus to draw attention to specific parts but in this case it seems like they just locked the focus and then used a flashlight to make your eyes follow along the card. The camera does not move during most of the shots so you won't need a fluid head tripod to achieve similar results.

 

Just play around with a flashlight (might have to dampen the light from it, or make it more directional) in a fairly dark room for a bit. You will probably want to use a fairly small aperture to keep a lot of the card in focus, and it will help make the shot darker as well.

It's a pretty cool effect.

@KirbyTech The lighting style (for some of the shots) is Low Key Lighting IMO.  Google/Youtube that and maybe its what you are lookikng for?  Its basically lighting the subject from a lower perspective from one side so you light across the subject which creates shadows.  In the opening scene, it looks like they are moving the light source instread of the subject.  It looks like and LCD panel? For the rest of the video, they are probably using a slider in some shots.   Hope this helps....

Thanks will look at that and it is b-roll for how I will be using it. those will be cut away shots. Maybe some intro ones but I doubt it until I am better.

The lighting style is called light painting. You use a handheld light source and "paint" your subject however you want.
