$600 pc upgrade?

adamsjus1
Go to solution Solved by adamsjus1,

So for now I think I will plan to go with this- http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ZngHD3

I put a cheaper motherboard in there that matches my colors that I need. That did bring the price down a little bit so I should be able to get it sooner. I think I might actually do a build vlog and bench marks too.   Going from a PC that I spent around $400 total with a $40 cpu to a  $200 cpu and new motherboard and stuffs.

Seem good to you people?

I'd say that some of these choices are odd, rather specifically the CPU and motherboard. Since OP lives near a Micro Center, he can take advantage of their $200 4690K with $40 off of any motheboard.

yeah I have no idea what i was thinking,

i had originally thought of a 4460+970 upgrade combo, but scrapped it when I saw he had a non-1080p monitor, then just changed it slightly (removed gpu upgrade ) to fit a newmonitor, and after having the budget under 600 with a 4460, completely disregarded the possible cpu improvement. I actually edited the post before I saw you quote it :P.

SORRY, i thought that was your planned upgrade, i misread.

yes, go I5 4690k ($230) with a Z97 motherboard ($100) and a 970 ($350)

Actually, I was able to find a wind force gtx 970 for 295 with rebates. nice

Seriously, this. Even if it's on the driver disc, you can opt not to install it. The people who tend to get bloatware from driver installs and utility installs are the people who blow through installers without reading them.

BIOS Updates and drivers

bloatware is for sure not the correct term for the bios update.

drivers if you are not dumb can be avoided, not many driver updates to be had for motherboard anyway (avoided as in avoid bloatware not drivers lol)

Gigabyte has changed onboard components on lower end boards to cut costs and make for larger profit margins. I think that's more of a reason for distrust than some bloatware.

Theres my recommendation :) save some money on a new gpu http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ZGJZjX

^this is a better idea, the 270x will do most games well and a good CPU goes a lot farther than a good GPU

If OP upgrades his display to 1080p, the 2GB of VRAM will be the limiting factor. As well, not all games properly support CrossFire and scaling can be hit or miss. He could sell his current R9 270X for $100 and get the same or better performance more consistently with a GTX 970 or R9 290X.

That's very debatable, especially dependent on what you're doing with the PC.

If you're gaming, most games show a larger difference from an R9 270X to GTX 970 than they do from an i5 to an i7 (using this example from the previously suggested setups.)

but an I5 paired with a 970 is nferior to an I7 paired with the 270x

this way he is also not buying a CPU he might just swap out later, and its $100 cheaper if he doesnt do the SSD

but SSDs are great and a 250 GB one is a must-have, it will increase overall performance

What do you guys think of that? I changed the prices because of sales at microcenter.

I would buy a better display, maybe the H236hlbid or something like it. Otherwise it looks solid, but spend less on the motherboard and get a slightly larger and nicer display. The Z97 Gaming 5 from MSI should do fine as a board and is IIRC $40 cheaper.

It just depends what your using the computer for, I7 is good for Rendering and video editing I5 for gaming only

An i5 is still fine for video editing/rendering, though an i7 will show a definite benefit. If you don't mind waiting a bit longer for videos to render, an i5 isn't a terrible choice.

Yea I see your logic.  But on my side. I'm not about large displays. As long as its 1080p. Because I can't have it take up my whole desk.  And color matching for the motherboard... I have OCD so,...... yea
