$600 pc upgrade?

adamsjus1
Go to solution Solved by adamsjus1,

So for now I think I will plan to go with this- http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ZngHD3

I put a cheaper motherboard in there that matches my colors that I need. That did bring the price down a little bit so I should be able to get it sooner. I think I might actually do a build vlog and bench marks too.   Going from a PC that I spent around $400 total with a $40 cpu to a  $200 cpu and new motherboard and stuffs.

Seem good to you people?

Kraken X61 is overprices, and that board is overkill. get a Hyper 212 EVO and either get a 970 and drop te monitor or get the monitor and the I7

You really didn't read the OP enough, did you...

He has an EVO already. The EVO, by the way, really isn't all that amazing a cooler for these chips. It's not bad, but pushing higher overclocks demands a better cooler and his case is a bit strapped for airflow anyways. He is running a 1680x1050 monitor right now, it's debatable whether 1080p will be a significant upgrade but the extra work space and generally higher PPI makes it worthwhile for a lot of people. And why does he need an i7 again? The i5 is far more than capable for gaming, and he doesn't seem to be doing anything else.

Yea I see your logic.  But on my side. I'm not about large displays. As long as its 1080p. Because I can't have it take up my whole desk.  And color matching for the motherboard... I have OCD so,...... yea

The Gaming 5 matches fine. I can understand the whole large displays thing.

I have a hyper 212 evo.... Did you not read that part of my first comment on this topic?

i missed that bit, sorry. but the Kraken is still over priced and the 212 EVO can OC to 4.7 without breaking 70C

Well, with an i7, GTX 1080, Full tower and flashy lights, it can obviously only be for one thing:

but an I5 paired with a 970 is nferior to an I7 paired with the 270x

this way he is also not buying a CPU he might just swap out later, and its $100 cheaper if he doesnt do the SSD

but SSDs are great and a 250 GB one is a must-have, it will increase overall performance

lolwat,

2 270x with a i7 loses to 4690k with 970

at least in firestrike

270x + 4790k

http://www.3dmark.com/fs/3487944

970+ 4690k

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/4556064

results may vary

edit: it appears as the 270x build is oced in that benchmark, and the 970 build isn't.. thats rough (edit 2: 970 is oced 4690k isnt)

The Kraken isn't very overpriced, and I would love to see what voltage and fan setup you have to run to get those temps. That's high-end AIO territory, and the EVO can certainly not handle an average 4.7GHz OC (that being at around 1.32V based on all of the chips I have seen.)

Also to keep in mind that I am fine with getting a monitor if it will be a good upgrade. I would love to run two monitors. And I would take advantage of an i7 because I use auto CAD sometimes but I would rather go with the i5.  And I want to make my pc A LOT more quet. Its a rumble right now. Which is why I want to get the x61 cooler

All of that sounds fine.

Get the X61, the i5, the motherboard and the display. The i5 will still be a significant improvement for AutoCAD, while you will all-around get a better upgrade. More screen real estate, a more powerful CPU and better cooling and acoustics. Pretty much hits all of your points.

Right now to keep nice an low temps on my cpu I have two of the high performance sp 120mm rad LED fans running at FULL speed on my hyper 212 evo. And yes my idle temps are around 8 C..... And it is SOOO load. And the x61 would match my case because its NZXT

Its because I don't do use it that often. I am in the engineering classes at my school so I only use it when I have to do something for homework and that isn't that often because I try to do as much as I can at school.

Okay so I forgot that I have another like $150 already. So what could I do with $750 for an upgrade? Explore all angles.
