A bit of OBS webcam bother... anyone know what's up?

N00B_person

Hey everyone,

I've been experimenting a little with OBS and trying out streaming. I've worked out most things and streamed a couple times, but I've always had trouble getting my webcams to work.

I've got two webcams, both identical. Both are recognised by both windows and OBS, but once actually put into a scene, only one of them will work at a time. Instead of both having a picture, one has a picture and the other has the red outline where the picture should be. Both work normally, I checked that in the WebcamViewer tool, but its only when they are put into that situation that they don't work.

I appreciate any feedback :)

Can you post a screenshot of your OBS window? I think I might know what's causing it.

Okay, which source is the camera that isn't working?

the one labeled 'keycam', but it changes depending on which one i put in the scene first.

I don't see it listed. Does it work if the other camera is disabled?

It does, but once one works, the other doesn't.

Hmm, try 64bit OBS starting it as an administrator?

And can you show what the screen is when you click "configure" next to where you select the device under it's properties? I think this is simply a problem with how Windows handles input devices though.

someone else fixed this by using a different port on the motherboard

could be overloading the usb ports I suppose..especially at 1080p

no luck with the 64bit admin...

I'm clicking configure under both camera properties, and nothing is happening.

Nah, it's the way Windows handles input devices. If it's labeled the same then it'll fail.

Maybe you can rename the device in the device manager?

I'll try to look in to this as soon as I'm able to, because I've always been bothered when this happens to me.

small update, renaming devices DOES involve the registry editor. I know how to get the permissions and stuff, but once I did rename the 'FriendlyName' file for both cameras, the original names were still in 'devices and printers' and OBS.
