So we are moving my PC by car, about an hour long car ride. Now i have read a little, but i am not really sure what to do. Many recommend at least taking the GPU out, some say also to take out the CPU cooler. There also seem to be different ideas as to how to put it in the car. I dont have the original box or anything so that is not an option. So does anyone have any advice regarding this? Thanks.

If it's possible to lay the computer down on its side, then you don't really have to do anything to the computer.

Though, if you have to have the computer standing up, then yes. The very least you should do is take out the graphics card. It's generally okay to keep the CPU cooler in. As long as it's firmly secured.

But with that said. Last weekend my brother took his computer for a 30+ minute drive to a friend's place. Nothing was taken out. And it arrived safe. But better safe than sorry.

i place my 900d (huge case, seriously huge) behind my passenger seat upright just as it normally sits. then i push the passenger seat back so it holds my case firmly in place. everything is always fine. i don't take anything out.

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

Should be fine, I normally try and trap it somewhere like behind the seat, or between some bags in the boot so it doesn't slide around and jump when going over bumps etc

Are you going offroading or something?

Just leave everything in there

The roads here are pretty much just fine, at least where we are going to drive, so it shouldnt be much of an issue.

Do you have a massive, heavy pc cooler?

If you're really worried pack foam blocks in the case around the components to reduce movement.

It is a Cooler Master Hyper 412S, basically a 212 just slimmer i believe. So probably not that big. I was thinking of just like putting it in the car and just putting some other stuff around the case so it doesnt move, and that that would be enough.

Should be fine. Honestly drive smoothly, avoid massive potholes.

That might be a good idea, i think my case is fairly big.

Im not sure if there is space to lay it on its size, i might rather go with the "put it upright and secure it".

I think i will do that.

Thanks :)

The computer my brother drove with was a in a Corsair 900D case. We had it standing and secured it with two seatbelts, since a single one wasn't long enough.

If you have enough room in the car, then behind the passenger seat is the most secure. And move the front seat back so that it can't move. You you have to keep it standing in the rear seat, then do as mentioned above. Buckle it up with seatbelts.

Corsair 900D....Cause when the biggest isn't big enough, you need a 900D...... Yes I have one as well. I kept the box, and the packing foam in case I ever need to move it....Not looking foward to that.

This works well for me with standard cases. I imagine it won't with my filled Nanoxia DS6 though.

I always put my PC in the case box and then put screens and key boards etc in suitcase or something, then lay the box down in the boot and its always fine! I do it 5-6 times a year for LAN parties and sleepover at mates houses.

We didn't use the box. The box makes the whole thing way, way too big to handle. Just too cumbersome.
