Wattage amount for 4k gaming with 2 titan x's?

Hi everyone.  Im curious to know how much psu wattage do I need for hardcore overclocking 4k gaming?  Is 1000 enough, or do I need a 1200 psu?  I will be running 2 titan x's and I was told those things take up a massive amount of power.  I don't know anything about gaming so any help is appreciated :-)

1000w is a lot of overkill. You would be very much fine with 850w. They don't consume THAT much energy.

I would say 850W is enough. They use a bit more power than the 980's but not huge amounts more.

850 is actually more than enough, even 750 would be enough as long as you have a solid psu. But just get an evga p2 1000w if you want a silent ultimate psu for that setup.

I didn't know psu's where more "quieter" then others.  thanks for the tip @Sean

Yes, it all depends on the fan they use, if they use a fan, and if the fan has an automatic mode. My PSU produces zero noise until my system is at about 40% load, then the fan turns on. Until then, the fan doesn't spin at all.

Titan X doesn't draw that much power than a 980. I'm running 2 980s at 1400MHz for a 4k display very comfortably on a 750W power supply. 850W would be fine although you could probably justify buying a 1000W power supply for that kind of system.

PCPartPicker estimates an X99 build with two Titan X, (32GB memory, 2xSATA) at 793W. If one planned to oc the cpu and gpu, something around 1000W would be comfortable. 850W I think would be a touch tight.

Geforce.com lists TDP at 250W, http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-titan-x/specifications. Remember the card does have 12GB of GDDR5 and 3,072 CUDA cores.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Most PSUs have fans in them which are used for cooling the PSU, and some of the higher end ones can turn the fan off when the temperature is below a certain point to reduce noise, or have a better fan that is both quieter and moves more air.

One must keep overclocking in mind as well.

Look at Linus' video. He used OCed 5930k with OCed Gtx 980s. 4way SLI consumed 620w FROM THE WALL. Factor in PSU efficiency.... and you just realize that Maxwell is that much power efficient.

Now, I know it isn't the 980, it is the Titan X. A reviewer of my language measured 340w on single. Assuming assuming that a second one would double the consumption (which is competely false, but still....), we are looking at 680w from the wall, so that's not counting the PSU efficiency.

So... yeah. Forget any bullcrap that anyone says about needing super high wattage PSU. 850w will be PLENTY of breathing room.

Why do you think I said 750W then?

As the owner of two 780s (Titan X in ~12 hours) and 750W  power supply, an 850W unit is the better and safer choice.
