But i dont want the m40x to be resting on my ears. I want them to cover it completely!

Where have you gotten this information? They should be the same.

They are over ears but they are one of the smaller over ears. If you must have something that goes over your ear you may want to look somewhere else. If you're willing to get an open headphone, The Phillips SHP9500 has pretty big earpads. DT770 also have big pads and that's closed.

M50 non x version

interior roughly 6cm X 4.7ish cm and 2.3ish deep

and because I have a dt770 sitting next to me

interior 6cm circular X 2.4ish deep

how much all the cushions squish I have no desire to measure

Hmmm so is it accurate to say this?

All the M series headphone should have the same earcup size, that's why they can all use the same aftermarket earpads.

Noooo my ears are too big D:

When you use your m50 does it rest on your ears?

you're shit out of luck then because I'm pretty sure the cup size for the m50 is near universal 4 other headphones I have have earcups that swap over directly or near direct.

that said I still have my tape measure sitting next to my computer and my ears are 6.5ish cm (large earlobes) and I have had NO problems with any of my circumaural headphones. actually I was surprised my ears were larger than the cups. I think you need to take out earlobe size out of the equation the sensitive parts are the cartilage filled upper ears which get irritated even for me when I wear on ears.

also if earlobes were that sensitive then how do women wear large Sarkeesian style hoop earings without irritation

earpad depth, how close the driver housing sits to your ear and pad longevity factors WAY more toward your comfort than interior circumference.

I like having an M50 in my lineup. but for long hour headphone sessions that are 3-4-5 + hours long I forget my ath ad700 is on my head half the time the m50 I take off after 1-2 hours and there is a relief when I take it off.

I've just gotten my m40x AND I FUCKING LOVE IT LOL

Just a question! I have my speakers connected in the back panel and my gaming headset connected via usb. Why is it that my computer cannot play audio on my m40x when i connect it via back panel audio jacks with the long cable but it can when i connect it via the front panel ports with my short cable? (yes i bought a seperate short cable from m50x to work with my m40x)

  • 1 year later...

I'm thinking of buying after market ear pads for the M40X, can I use the ones for M50X? I read that the M50X are slightly bigger, I don't know if that will translate to different sized ear pads.
