We need a pinned/sticky motherboard spec explanation thread!

I'd really like to have some motherboard/ mainboard (what is it actually?) explained and distinguished. I don't know a lot about motherboards myself but I am shure a lot of other people do. I would really like to see one of YOU (YEAH I am looking at you motherboard-GEEK OUT THERE) to create such a threat so we also have a database such as we already have one for sound cards for example.

I think you got my point.

Who thinks the same?

Who has had some questioned before that he had to ask instead of easily looking them up in the database?

Hoping for great feedback guys because i got to know you as one of the most enjoyable communities of the whole Interweb.

Yup... I'm tired to go to TPU (they're slow as fuck when replying) or overclock.net (not very kind) bc here I get no answers

PS: mainboard is another name for motherboard

Thx man. Hope there are more out there thinking the same way so somebody will eventually do the threat. We could even consider doing it in little parts all helping together collecting info. Maybe :D

Problem: We would need someone to make that thread. Easier thing: Have Linus do video which explains that stuff. Bad answer: Use Google and Wikipedia. Better answer: Ask here.

Most stuff you learn as you go on. Others are pretty selfexplanatory. Like Different I/O connectors.

I'm not entirely sure what the thread would be telling you.  There are many, many different types of motherboards, and I wouldn't know where to start to compile a list of them.  I think "motherboards" is far too broad of a topic to have a go-to thread about.  Are you talking about compatibility?  CPUs?  RAM?  Functionality?  I/O?  Chipsets?  Third party hardware?

Linus did a pretty good job of explaining a motherboard here:

Perhaps a better idea would be to sticky a thread that has the FAQ that we most often see in this subforum.  e.g. the many overclocking troubleshooting threads and guides, how to clean your components, common problems and how to fix them, etc.

Isopropyl alcohol is all you need for cleaning CPU's and motherboard components.  No, you don't need [insert cleaning solution here].  -Source: PhD Student, Chemistry

E g explain some newbies what different sockets there are for what processors maybe of which gen.

And to have an explicit explanation about what the difference between a h81 b81 z97 x99 or whatever mobo is.

I can barely tell what their difference is. Anyway aside the fact someone would have to start it wouldn't it still be great to have such a thing even if it was moderately "huge"?

Well somewhere in that direction but maybe more compact and reduced on the for-the-forum-important-part. And no I was not talking: "tell me the freaking impendancy of your CPU." That is to be kept in the "experience with non techies threat ;D thanks for the still pretty informative link my man.

Just so I know: would you like to such threat apart from the monstrosity this project could end up in? Simple yes or no would be cool. Fanks bruv...

Sure, there'd be a thread with all those things (socket, chipset, etc...)

There're lots of people that still asking about those things

How to get a pinned threat? ;-) is it like a "marked by admin thing".

And do you think it would be a good idea if I started it. Or should I just way for some more experienced rando comin around to do it.

Yup, threads are pinned by admins.

If you want to start it you'd organize it first, divide it in parts, text formatting, sources, etc...

Don't worry. I am not dumb enough to instantly post some random shit compilation just because you gave me a go.

Actually I already have a pretty distinct idea on how to start that.... Need some more time than school is giving me atm though.

Do you know if pictures have to be not-copy-prohibited to be used in this forum. Or does anybody even care. Do you have to always give sources for everything eve though it is correct. I just do not want any trouble with admins because of doing stuff wrong.

Fell free to tell my anything you know about creating such a threat.
