HP Pavilion Revamp: Plan B

QueenDemetria

I would try to make it follow the line a little bit better. But because I'm idiot, I only have the jpg file, not the PSD one. Soooo.... I guess it's good how it is. :D

Yes, I'm lazy and don't want to do it from scratch again. :D

xD I've done that so many times

Heyyo,

how do you even spot stuff like that from like 2 seconds of in-game footage? :o

Weird Al Yankovic summed it up best...

Seriously though, you see them enough at work? It's just second nature to spot them lol... I went and saw Tropic Thunder with a coworker too, she also spotted the HP tower hahaha. rip Futureshop. Good times were had in that tech room.

I've also replaced screens on the DV 6000 series so many times... it's crazy how clumsy some people are... or forget their notebooks in their vehicles overnight in winter... and the LCD solidifies and cracks the screen... LIQUID crystal display... not SOLID crystal display... lol. ;)

I am assuming this build will never end.

Meh, the only time a build ever gets "completed" is if it becomes an archival PC. Much like Lazy Game Reviews on YouTube has a bunch of older PCs for playing certain era of video games the way they were meant to be. Luckily with the sudden resurgence of classic PC games getting compatibility updates mainly thanks to www.gog.com starting that trend? Older games can be enjoyed once again on modern PCs... speaking of? All this talk of summoning makes me thing of the game Summoner and that makes me wanna go back and finish that game since I never did beat it as a teen... I saw it on Steam and GoG which is awesome.

I was really hoping the HP wouldn't come to a piece of shit Logisys case, but it did. So, even though I have a perfect NZXT Phantom and Corsair 300R that are practically empty, I decided to use a used Logisys case as a temporary home for my "new and improved" HP. I discovered a few things along the way:

  • Logisys uses neither metric or imperial, its something in between.
  • Along with their indecisive use of standards, it uses both fine thread and coarse threads on everything.
  • "Airflow? Where we're going we don't need airflow" - Logisys
  • You can make anything fit if you try hard enough.

So to begin, here is my finished temporary build:

z1ukUzZ.jpg

You might notice some odd things and I'm here to answer them. So, the missing 5.25" bay covers are so the CPU can breathe, the thing stuck to the side panel is a fan controller from an old Zalman heatsink, and that F***ing HP/Pegatron motherboard is still in my life(and its actually a spoiler for another buildlog).

Taking a peak inside this thing:

6jgtesi.jpg

Cable management is totally not a thing in this case, no holes for routing cables, no space underneath the motherboard tray, and large awkward open areas. For now, I'm just going to leave the cables all "willy nilly", but this is only because its not worth my time or zipties to fix as this set up is only temporary. Things get better when you look below:

Sp5iS7h.jpg

Yeah, the R7 265 is long enough to touch my HDD, so sad. I have 4 HDD's and 2 SSD's in this system, its impressive considering this case wasn't designed for this much hardware. Airflow in the lower area is surprisingly good, the front 120mm fan can actually push a good amount of air through the HDD's. Also, you might notice the 9500gt not having a screw holding it in, well it doesn't need one. The "amazing" fit and finish of this case makes all of the PCI slots tight, and the combination of the stupidly placed rivet holds it in really tight. I also cant get a screw to fit.

And thats it for the "electrical" side of things, the rest of the HP case is almost empty with the only things left being the motherboard, PSU, and RAM drive, but when I undo my RAID array I'll remove the rest of the stuff and start investigating a full ATX tray. I also found some cheap radiators on eBay, and I'm thinking about getting a couple for "review purposes" and using for the finished product. Even though I fixed my ThermalFake radiator, I want to go bigger. Also I want to spoil a little something I have planned: Basically I'm "too poor" for new waterblocks(more like I'm too cheap), so I'm going to be making my own. I'm almost finished with the CAD drawing, but I hope to have a finished prototype soon(I just need to see if materials will be easy to get, since I already have the tools). If all goes well, I'm going to have bitchin waterblocks on hardware that really doesn't make sense, but that seems to be the theme of all of my projects.

Lastly, I've decided that I'm going to make separate build logs for the "shitbox" and "Tux"(along with the fish tank PC, and mini router, and emulation station, And...) so look out for those. I've built a PC that I've promised myself doesn't need to be upgraded, so I can build all these cool machines now without being left without a PC, so now I can finally get to work(it helps that I've sorted out life too). I can't hold this in anymore, but if you want to know what kind of build Tux is going to be then:

vgiRg8E.jpg

Yeah, I have some cool things planned :)

Yeah I'm hardcore :P But I like building difficult PC's. Since I worked at BestBuy and Microcenter, I have built(and fixed) many "easy" computers, so I don't have fun with them anymore. I build the computers that nobody else wants to build :P

I have to photoshop some cables that I want to sleeve, but I should really reply to some of my PMs(I feel teribad with my AFK, should do this first).
