Psst, get a Riva TNT2, put it with the Pentium II and we can start a legacy gaming rig club (went into EB games and still brand new with all of the other games in the PC games section I found several good ones that can run on a Riva TNT2)

I've been thinking of getting a 2nd 970, but unsure if that would be a better purchase than the Asus PG279Q.  2GPU's would be harder to get rid of 2-3 gen's down the road, but the monitor will stay.  Black Friday, why you do this ):

The only problem is that I need a motherboard that can run a Celeron 300A or 333A on a 100MHz FSB (aka giving me a better variant of the Pentium II). One of the games recommends a Pentium 60 its that old (still can't believe it was on shelves with modern games).

Well I've obviously lost the silicone lottery on the GPU and my memory is at 8000mhz effective so what are you getting at exactly?

Nothing-my PSU don't allow for stable overclocks-and lately I've been getting random driver crashes with the card at its stock settings (though it is running 10oC cooler since I replaced the TIM with AC5)

I managed to mod my bios to get 1.275v and everything is fine, i got 1561/7700 stables, after get artifacts at 1600 core clock.

I would like to know how to use 1.275v but using the overclock voltage option (i.e msi afterburner), i mean, now its like if they were the stock voltage so everytime i play a game my card use 1.275 unnecessarily in some games. I'm still learning about all of this, so ill appreciate any help.

What's the power table set up like?  With the settings in that voltage table like you have them, as long as the last few sliders in the power table are set to max at 1.281v then your card will run the highest voltage available there, in this case 1.281v without using the slider at all.  In fact, the way you have the voltage table set up in this picture, the slider won't have any functionality at all.

You have to change minimal values in 2nd and 3rd sliders. I have tried this, but sometimes voltage fluctuates and causes instability.

Just ordered my Strix 970.

X-mas present.

Just don't expect major overclocking with that GPU.

Does anyone know why the STRIX has hardware locked voltage?

Because the hardware is not capable of more. If strix had 8 pin and 6 pin, then it probably wouldn't be HW locked.

Does anyone know why the STRIX has hardware locked voltage?

Because ASUS......  They're not very good overclockers anyway, because of the power limit restrictions with the single 8 pin.  There was some software floating around early on that would supposedly "unlock" the voltage on the STRIX cards, but I'd only ever heard about it being down on the 980 and 980ti.  Last I heard though, it hasn't worked since driver revision 347 something...which is pretty old.

And there's nothing wrong with the hardware on the STRIX.  They're actually built really well, and have a good VRM.  ASUS just tripped and fell on the fail button.  Then bounced, and hit it again.

Ya know, you might just try some lower voltages.  Some cards aren't taking the extra voltage very well.  One of my 970s works great running 1.275, and the other hates anything above 1.262.  Try some different settings and see what works best for your card.
