The prices over at Doghouse, WOW!

Army165

Watched the 5 best systems at PAX, Doghouse got me interested. A system with only a 4690k, 750ti, 4GB's of RAM and a run of the mill 1TB HDD start's at $1,895!!!! Their i7 platform with only one 970 and still has only a 1TB HDD is $2,595!!! I went to configure thinking they'd have good deals if you added parts, not even close! $340 for an Intel 730 240GB SSD, I paid $110 for that drive last month, brand new in the package.

These prices include a stock Intel CPU cooler and Corsair cases. I can't believe that people actually give these people business, it's a blatant ripoff. The worst part, it takes them 2-3 weeks to get the job done. Crazy stuff right here and I felt the need to share. I know some people aren't willing to build their own system but please make sure you shop around or you'll get ripped off.

Cool, though you're not forced to buy them nor is anyone else. There are plenty of better system builders for value or appearance. Digital Storm, Origin, Maingear (though pricey), CyberPower (just don't get the base PSU), NCIX in Canada, Micro Center's PowerSpec brand etc.

they cost more because they have to factor in the man hours for building the system , testing , then overclocking (if you wanted it) then more testing , then shipping it @Army165

Yea, I wouldn't call it a blatant ripoff. They do put ALOT of work into your builds, but its defiantly not worth it if you aren't doing insane modding which they are good at.

Is it bad that my dream setup only costs a few thousand not counting the obutto?

Wow, all of those man hours to build such an intense and well-planned PC. The higher end stuff has some case and basis for argument, but this?

No, $1400 for $600 of computer isn't acceptable. Not unless the chassis is crusted in Diamonds or Gold or something. The art on the side panel didn't cost $800.

Much better option.

OH MY GOD, VOODOO AND TNT2 IN THE SAME SYSTEM? HERE, TAKE MY MONEY AND LEAVE WITH IT.

But those things were seriously cool, I kind of want one.

That thing was released before I was in school.

Dun even know what TNT2 and VooDoo are lol. The thread about how computers are like 10x easier to build now from the 90s. Once you get into jumpers, setting up slave/master HDDs, and PATA/IDE, it becomes a mess.

What do you expect, it's a business.

They charge however much their costumers are willing to pay. If you are not willing to paid said price, you are not their costumer then. It might surprise you but not everyone like building their own rigs and much less troubleshooting them. So they pay a hefty premium to get a pc in the mail that "simply works". This is usually when you have more money than time available.

This is very much like building your own speakers. All you really need is a few cheap tools, plywood, screws and glue, and the driver itself. Yet put it altogether and turn it into an actual speaker and it they add $800 on top of what all the materials cost.

Of course computer building is extremely simple when compared to speaker building but the example I wanted to make was that basically there are people that want the finished product but don't want to deal with getting their hands dirty, so to speak.

Dude, if they have a WD drive, they automatically depreciate the PC 20 percent. So they're definitely ripping us off to the max.

Tell you what. I'll buy as many custom high quality cases as you'll make at what you consider not to be a rip off.

I want custom paint jobs with automotive paint, no blemishes, and custom vinyls and acrylic. And clearcoated with no overspray.

Not defending it too much is still  pic overpriced but at the bottom it says " Standsrd One Year Parts and Labor Warranty". I bet that is where a lot of cash is factored in.

I truly understand that there are people that don't know how to build or don't want to. The point here is that prices are extremely exaggerated. Back the the Intel 730, to add just one, it's $370. That's more than double and putting one in a case, isn't much of a labor intensive task. Their higher end PC at the $2500 range doesn't even come with a 980, that's insane. I guess my advice would be to shop around. In the meantime, I'm going to look into system building, it seems profitable lol
