i7-2600k, worth it still for a great price?

Throw away the PSU, buy a new one, you'd wanna make sure you have a performing PSU, which is a LOT easier for your peace of mind if you bought a new PSU for overclocking the 2600K into beast mode instead of using an older one you've no idea how many hours of use it's had.

Overclocking to 4.5Ghz is WAY TOO EASY, and you only need the equivalent of a Hyper212 to get there.

Pushing for more,... get a better CPU cooler though!

Trust me... getting to 4.6-4.8Ghz is also do-able (bar the bad silicon lottery), but temps are getting towards concerning levels on the Hyper when up to 4.8Ghz or higher.

Working out great so far! Dying Light seems to be stuttering a lot, but I think that's the 290x.

Yeah, AMD gets wrecked by Dying Light. Tom's Hardware did a benchmark of it where the 290x gets outperformed by the weak ass GTX 960.

Have you tried turning view distance all the way down?

Not yet but I'll give that a try. I think it suffers so much because of the Nvidia GameWorks stuff that's in there. My GTX 760 performed much better believe it or not. Kinda disappointing :/

I'm jealous of people who bought the i5-2500k and i7-2600k back when they came out. How crazy to get a high end gaming CPU and then 4 years later it's still a high end gaming CPU? And without even having to buy $1000 extreme editions.

SO funny you posted that. I bought the 2500K and EVERYONE laughed at me when I said I was buying it for futureproofing reasons.

Who's laughing now!!! B)

Such a great CPU. Never overclocked mine either!

Not to update an oldish thread, but I got the i7-2600k and it's running perfectly! Paired it with a 290x that I snagged for $230 so I'm a happy guy.

You are like, the luckiest butthole in the world. Why can't I find sweet deals like that.

Have you checked craigslist? I just searched "i7" and "r9" in various areas where I live (Boston craigslist, Rhode Island craigslist etc.). I had to filter through a ton of crap to find those two gems though.

C'mon man, that's like buying a Shelby Cobra and only driving it to church on Sundays!

It's pretty bad, but thats all I would do with a Shelby as well! lol... I baby my toys soooo badly. I always think of the resell factor :(

I'm tickled about overclocking, but I'm not looking to at the moment as I don't have a need to for it. Everything I currently do with the PC just works right.

Except I live in Montana and am probably the only one in a 300 mile radius that works with computers and computer hardware.

Ahh brand new it is :/ also, slapped on a Corsair H100i and got to 4.5Ghz pretty easily! Nice and stable too.

It's the game itself...

Lowering the View distance works well to minimize it on my machine.

With it at max distance, it would still perform 'up to' maximum FPS, but has a lot of FPS variance in between back and forth... like a GPU usage issue, but its the game engine itself...

Needs a good patch or two...

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
