Gear - Does it improve performance?

For a while now, ive been interested in the different types of gaming gear. I always see the top sponsored gamers and streamers (Mostly CS:GO) play with lots of expensive, branded gear. But all these gear, does it really make your performance in games better? Mice, headset, keyboards - companies just slap on a "Made for gaming" sticker, but does it really work that way?

Ive always used an old Dell L100 keyboard and a very very old IBM MO28UOL mouse for all my gaming. I cant say i perform what i feel is my "Best" but i have times where im good on these gear and times where i just all out suck.

Whats your opinion on this topic?

Meh.

It could be more comfortable, but a pro with shitty equipment can still own a kid with Razer stuff.

It is sometimes nice though

It's more for ergonomics and comfort, if you game in long sessions it can be important.

Depends on what it is, a better keyboard might help in some situations, honestly enjoy my mechanical k65 much more than my old membrane keyboard, although it took some getting used to.

I'm sure I'd be better at MMO's if I used the hotkeys on the side of my mouse, rather than clicking everything with my mouse.

Ketchup is better than mustard.

GUI is better than Command Line Interface.

Dubs are better than subs

Mostly, no.

Actually too much gear can have a negative effect.

Too fast refresh rate monitors for example, cramp my style a lot.

Because my best skill is anticipation and prediction (of enemy behaviour / movement) so when I have no need to use it, the skill rots and I find myself doing worse.

Though of course over time reactions will improve instead. But I prefer using prediction as I don't like to be reactive. It doesn't engage me as much.

Naturally, if you're using a membrane keyboard and one of those tiny bundled throwaway wireless mice, then you should of course do something about it.

Gaming headsets apart from a very select few are trash. BitFenix Flo, that one Func headset and the Kingston whatever are alright. But mostly an AKG K240 isn't expensive at all and knock them all out of the sky, just attach a modmic.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

The only gear that will really effect anything is the mouse. A perfect sensor is important above all else, especially when playing something like an FPS

Specs: 4790k | Asus Z-97 Pro Wifi | MX100 512GB SSD | NZXT H440 Plastidipped Black | Dark Rock 3 CPU Cooler | MSI 290x Lightning | EVGA 850 G2 | 3x Noctua Industrial NF-F12's

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it

A mouse. difinately. my neighbour has a shitty mouse and is very good with it. one day i left my stuff there and he played with my beloved logitech g500 and he got much better scores in for example call of duty or battlefield because it is that much better. It all depends on where you come from (gearwise)

Some people swear by their fancy peripherals but in all honestlyL 99.99% of normal player and even most pro players are nowhere near fast enough to outpace a good old rubber dome. Yes some might like the feeling of the clicky mechanical keys better, but most people and even proficient people wont perform any better with any of that stuff

If you like the looks, the feel, the fancy lights, go for it. But if you're just a gamer on a budget it will make 0 difference. Also goes for mice and when it comes to monitors most people just won't have rigs powerful to consistenly push over 60fps so those 120 or 144hz refresh monitors mostly go unused unless you play something ancient like quake 3

Yes, pay 500 dollars for monitor and can't afford a gpu to run a competitive game like League, Dota, or CS.

Believe it or not it does happen: Some people just pick up a 2k alienware prebuild and think "surely it can handle over 120fps" only to find out it comes with a lousy 770

The 770 does over 200 fps in CS, averages 120 in Dota 2 and well over 120 in League. Real competitive games are relatively easy to run.

Aside from a real mouse compared to like... any cheap or generic Dell mouse is leaps and bounds better to use. I just can't play with those mice, and I notice myself getting so many more kills because I can actually aim. But other than that nah a keyboard is a keyboard usually, and same with other stuff.

You need flames on the side of your case.

But nope, expensive stuff doesn't make you better.

A higher polling rate on your mouse can help smooth out movements though.

Sort of?

It doesn't really make a difference for me, but I can see how it could for good players.

The only thing I can think of comparing it to is golf clubs. I'm a decent golfer, and better clubs eek out better performance than worse clubs. I imagine it's the same with computer gear.

To a certain point, anyway.
