Posted March 7, 2015 My Dell D830 is old and sluggish, but it's not bad for a laptop i got for free. It could easily be faster, so i want to know if upgrading to a cheap 60GB class SSD would be worth my $50, or if i should just find a better laptop on eBay for the same price. Posted March 7, 2015 Looking at the specs of that laptop I would say no. I would just bite the bullet with the slowness. life();
Posted March 7, 2015 If you could, I'd upgrade to a newer laptop, but if you can't that sounds like a decent idea. I actually did this for a little while with one of the older laptops in our house (~5+ years now), and the performance was very significant (in terms of system boot time, programs loading, etc.), even though the SATA interface probably wasn't even SATA III. I actually couldn't underclock my 5 year old GPU to make it as slow as a next-gen console. #pcmasterraceproblems ~Slick
 Run some tiny distro of Linux on it. I wanna say that @terrytek said he used a small distro on an old PC that made it work much faster. |PSU Tier List /80 Plus Efficiency| PSU stuff if you need it. Even with Puppy linux it's slow as balls. I'm just not going to bother with it. Linus once unboxed a Toblerone
