that's more than 1 system inside a case.

TYAN is not a DIY supercomputer...

I didn't say it was. Titan was an IBM funded initiative. They ran out of money and needed something on the level of government funding. They got it, and nvidea was well paid for their calculating units,,,,

I still haven't got answer back from Jaded about a single system with more than 8 gpus.

not found. And I doubt for a DIY supercomputer, it has 200 teslas.

Doubt that, GTX980 alone already use >250w on compute intensive operation.

pretty close actually. my 5960x, and 980 runs to 500W with a mild overclock on cinebench.

geeze third result....

If you really need more, read the first line of the article. A supercomputer isn't in the hardware today.  It's in the software needed to control it.

The original argument you need to show me is a DIY PC WITH 8 GPUS, not some raspberry pi cluster.

What you don't like beowolf clusters? These were the third gen supercomputers. before Intel figured out how to stick more than one core onto a chip.

A supercomputer isn't a standard. It's a link of computers to get more processing power than is the industry standard. The devil isn't in the hardware, but the details.

You obviously read the cliff notes of this article. Even the OP says..."Making a small-scale supercomputer is relatively simple—just yoke together microelectronics to run in parallel. The hard part, explains Titan support specialist Adam Simpson, is writing the code for it."

Any PC with 8 pci channels can run 8 graphics cards.... the hard part is writing the code to make it run.

Always? come on, you throw that gauntlet down before a bunch of tech weenies and see what happens. No you're not always limited to 4 GPU's. You're limited to 4 GPU's in any consumer grade system. There's always a workaround, it just might not be practical, or available.

What the hell are you talking about? SLI is a consumer technology, you can't use more than 4 GPUs to drive games.

Has nothing to do with the thousand GPU clusters used by CG companies or scientific applications.

I have made many clusters, some linux, some windows.

show me a pc with 8 gpus.

oh for sure, Mod the bios and Nvidia software, then get a WS motherboard and ribbon All GPU´s

Daisy chain 2 1500w Power supplies and hope they dont kill your cards or each other.

Not to mention the risk of the MB frying itself.

well considering that this card is such a beast I wouldn't be surprised if it had 2 gpus in it.

but damn 3 freaking slots, guess i'd have to wait for waterblocks to come out

It doesn't. It's using a single GM200 chip.

That was a multisystem to actually have more than 8 gpus. Prove that you can have a 8 gpus in ONE SYSTEM.

I don't have too, commercial grade supercomputers prove it is possible. The problem has never been a hardware consideration. It's always been a software consideration, being able to apply all that horsepower to one problem (which btw is why AC:unity sucks balls)

Do you really want me to find a third google post to prove you wrong? will you need me to find a 4th?

Wow. It was to be a DIY 8 gpu supercomputer but now, you're just being annoying and make yourself seem like you've proved your point but you actually haven't. I know how supercomputers work but you haven't proven that you can make a DIY single system supercomputer with more than 8 gpus.

And all your google posts leads to commercial supercomputers and petty raspberry pi clusters, not a single system 8 gpu pc.
