If the nvidia 9800gt was released now?

brownninja97

Imagine that the 9800gt was released now and it had dx 11 support. How much would it be worth?

These are brand new prices so quoted from ebay doesnt count.

With its current specs? (besides the hypothetical DX11) It wouldn't be worth much.

worth dirt since wasn't the 9000 series on a 135nm fab? You could cook an egg on one or watch you electric mete visibly speed up.

I believe 9800gt would be comparable to the best AMD APUs now. Maybe still ahead of intel HD graphics.

Goes to show that despite all the progress that's been made we are nowhere close to matching the raw power of discrete graphics cards.

Lets assume that it has been upgraded to modern tech so better power effiecenty, quieter and doesnt need six pins. Im sure it could beat a Gt 640 in a showdown.

I'd imagine hand draw graphics would render quicker nowadays.

AMD Ryzen 5900x, Nvidia RTX 3080 (MSI Gaming X-trio), ASrock X570 Extreme4, 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB @ 3200mhz CL16, Corsair MP600 1TB, Intel 660P 1TB, Corsair HX1000, Corsair 680x, Corsair H100i Platinum

Honestly it would be around 50-70 dollars max and even then it wouldn't be that worth it.

the way to see it, is... what if a new broder of the G92 family comes out now (with DX10 and not DX11) ?

well it be a middle range GPU with DX10 and ppl will buy it i think (G92 is still a cool old card of Nvidia side)

but for that, it will need have a low price (and it be take out market to their new mid DX11 cards)

and that... "is not the Nvidia way"

keep in mind that "this" already have happened before with the G92

G92 = 8800 / 9800 / GTS 250

if they target the mid range market, they add 2GB of ram DDR3, and the lower the prices, it be a success ^_^

(it's pointless think on a G92 with DX11, is impossible)

Definatly ahead of the hd4000 in my 3570k. It gets me about double the fps

I'm still running a geforce 9600gt. I won't pretend that I'm not due an upgrade, because obviously i am. However i play at my monitor's modest native resolution of 1440x900 and at that res it still provides a decent experience. Games like Alan wake and rage work nicely at medium settings and look Good. Games like mass effect 3 i can actually max out with 60FPS and even turn on AA. The most demanding stuff of course such as battlefield 3 i would Probably have to turn everything down to low settings

i had 9800GTX + running low settings with bf3 at roughly 20-30fps

2x8800GT SLi in low settings in bf3 at 20-50fps with lots micro stuttering (only got my 7970 which replaced the 8800GT in march so yea..... :D )

If all the past cards had more vram they would probably be fairly decent (me not looking at cuda cores or texture fill rates for this post)

My Rig - Intel 4670K (4.3Ghz) Cooler Noctua NH-C14| Gigabyte Z87X-UD5H | 16GB GSkill 1866MHz | Gigabyte 7970 OC  | Samsung 840 Pro 128GB | Thermaltake Overseer RX-I  | Thermaltake TP Qfan 750w

yea, the true killer of "old" gpu cards, is their low Vram

all 256, 512, 1GB, and 1.5GB cards "are bottleneck" at this time (sorry GTX 500 that was a low blow)  :D

and they are dead for my standard view  ^_^ lol

(still, i have to add that the GTS 250 1GB is a "great old card" that i like it for cheap builds)  ;)
